Momba MNB holds a BA degree in Education, BSc Honours and MSc degrees in Biology, MSc and PhD degrees in Microbiology. Currently, she is a Full Research Professor at Tshwane University of Technology and a South African National Research Chair Holder of Water Quality and Wastewater Management. Research activities: drinking water purification and wastewater management, health-related water microbiology, bioremediation and pollution preventive measures. Supervisor of more than 75 Master and PhD graduates. Achievements: a National Research Foundation C1 Rated Scientist, with over 200 publications, International Award for “Outstanding Community Support” in 2004; National Women in Water Award; Institutional awards: Vice Chancellor Senior Research Medal award in 2005, 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2017, Innovator of the year in 2012; Adviser - World Health Organisation (Geneva) for Household Drinking Water from 2014; recognised as one of ten 2016 Science Heroes by the Planet Earth Institute; Leadership Excellence Award by the Global Water Pathogen Project in 2019. Contribution to invention: Water treatment in 2017; A computer-implemented genome tracking method and system in 2020. Member of 13 national and international scientific committees, and reviewer of about 17 refereed journals.
