Dr. George Moschonis is a Professor in the Department of Dietetics, Nutrition and Sport at La Trobe University. Until December 2019 Prof. George Moschonis was the Head of the Discipline of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, while he is currently the course coordinator of the Honours in Human Nutrition. His main research area of interest is the identification of determinants or predictors of obesity and obesity related cardio-metabolic complications and the design and evaluation of the clinical effectiveness of nutrition and lifestyle optimization counselling programs, aiming to tackle the societal challenge of obesity and related co-morbidities (i.e., type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease etc.) in children and adults. In addition, his research expertise also extends to the design of new functional food products, as well as to the implementation of human clinical trials that set the basis for the assessment of the clinical effectiveness of functional foods and dietary supplements. Prof. George Moschonis is currently the Chief Investigator (CIA) in a new EU-NHMRC funded project (i.e., DigiCare4You) on diabetes prevention and in two industry-funded probiotic supplementation intervention studies (i.e., Probone21 and Biome Lift study), while he is also the primary supervisor of five PhD and three Honours students.
