Biography

I was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1965. I studied a degree in Biology at the Faculty of Biology at the University of Havana. In 1993, I specialized in Plant Genetic Resources at the Technical University of Madrid, Spain. In 1996, I began my PhD in Plant Sciences and Biotechnology at the Scientific Research Center of Yucatan, Merida, Mexico. Currently, my line of research is the effect of salinity on Capsicum chinense plants and the contribution of melatonin to its tolerance. I have worked with water stress in Habanero peppers. We also collaborate with the University of Concepción in Los Angeles, Chile, studying salinity in Colobanthus quitensis. I am a senior researcher in the Integrative Biology Unit within the Integrative Agrobiology research line at the CICY.
