Background: To assess depression, anxiety, and other psychological disorders in adolescents with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and determine the significant factors and the effect of digital media use on its scores among these patient groups. Methods: The study was conducted as a cross-sectional study and included 84 adolescents with CKD and 68 healthy controls. The participants completed the Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS). We recorded their age, gender, the most problematic issue in their lives, coping methods with problems, and online applications they prefer in their leisure time. Results: Elevated rates (scores > 70) of separation anxiety, panic disorder, obsession, depression, total anxiety, and total depression scales were statistically higher in the CKD group. Separation anxiety, panic disorder, obsession, total anxiety, and total depression scales were higher in girls, and panic disorder, obsession, depression, total anxiety, and total depression scores were higher in younger ages in multivariate analysis. In the CKD group, family issues/problems increased panic disorder, obsession, depression, total anxiety, and total depression scales. Crying in tears/yelling response in children while facing a problem was associated with increased separation anxiety and social phobia rates. Also, preferring video applications was associated with separation anxiety and messaging applications with depression, total anxiety, and total depression. Conclusions: Adolescents with CKD are at risk for depression, anxiety, obsession, and panic disorders. Also, crying in tears/yelling response may be at greater risk for anxiety among CKD adolescents. Early psychiatric evaluation and routine psychiatric follow-ups initiated early may improve the mental health of this vulnerable population. Graphical

This study aimed to identify the biopsychosocial stressors influencing child and adolescent mental health during periods when facetoface education was suspended and to evaluate the psychological sequelae of school closures and related restrictions. We conducted a retrospective observational study at Kartal Dr. Lütfi Kırdar City Hospital, a tertiary care center in İstanbul, reviewing all patients referred to the child and adolescent consultation-liaison psychiatry (CLP) unit between March 2020 and March 2022. We assessed associations between psychiatric diagnoses and health-related stressors, school closure status, age, and sex using both frequentist and Bayesian methods. During the study period, 264,013 pediatric admissions were recorded, of whom 270 (0.10%) required psychiatric consultation. The proportions of suicide attempts and anxiety diagnoses did not differ between periods of open and closed schools (BF10 = 0.21 and 0.138, respectively; moderate evidence for the null). Multivariate analysis showed that the odds of suicide attempts were higher in patients exposed to family or schoolrelated stressors (OR = 6.63, 95% CI 2.72–16.19), in females (OR = 8.10, 95% CI 4.16–15.77), and with increasing age (OR = 1.32 per year, 95% CI 1.16–1.50). Female sex (OR = 4.17, 95% CI 2.03–8.55) and older age (OR = 1.30 per year, 95% CI 1.12–1.50) were also associated with depression. Anxiety was more likely in those facing isolation or healthrelated stressors (OR = 3.91, 95% CI 1.66–9.22). These findings highlight the differential impact of stressor type on internalizing symptoms and may inform resource allocation and crisisresponse planning in child mental health services.

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is among the most prevalent chronic pediatric skin diseases. Beyond its cutaneous manifestations, AD imposes substantial psychosocial and economic strain on families. We quantified this burden—i.e., maternal anxiety and quality of life (QoL)—and identified its clinical and sociodemographic determinants, comparing families of children with AD to those of healthy peers. Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled 84 mothers of physician-diagnosed patients with AD aged 3–144 months and 90 mothers of age-matched healthy children attending routine visits. Disease severity was graded with the Scoring Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index. Mothers completed the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and the 8-item European Health Impact Scale (EUROHIS-QoL). Additionally, the Dermatological Family Impact Scale (DeFIS) was administered to the AD group. Results: EUROHIS-QoL scores were lower in the AD group than in controls (p = 0.016), whereas The State-Anxiety Inventory (STAI-S) scores were higher (p < 0.001); the Trait-Anxiety Inventory (STAI-T) scores did not differ (p = 0.125). In multivariable models, patient status (p = 0.006), higher STAI-T (p = 0.002), and greater income (USD 750–1500: p = 0.014; >USD 1500: p = 0.010) were independently associated with QoL. Anxiety was driven by patient status, lower QoL, and higher STAI-T, while trait anxiety was driven by lower QoL and higher STAI-S. SCORAD correlated negatively with QoL (ρ = –0.225; p = 0.040) and positively with STAI-S and DeFIS. Conclusions: Pediatric AD significantly impairs mothers' QoL and heightens maternal situational anxiety and these effects intensify with increasing disease severity and financial strain. Multidisciplinary, family-centered care, including psychological screening and targeted support for low-income households, is essential for comprehensive AD management.

Objective: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that requires early recognition and multidisciplinary management. Pediatricians play a key role in the early detection and referral of children with suspected ASD. This study aimed to assess the knowledge and awareness levels of pediatricians, pediatric subspecialists, and pediatric residents in Turkey regarding ASD, and to examine the influence of professional experience and educational background on these outcomes. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 125 physicians using the validated Turkish version of the Knowledge about Childhood Autism among Health Workers (KCAHW) scale. Sociodemographic data, clinical experience, and educational exposure were recorded. Descriptive statistics, group comparisons, and logistic regression analyses were performed. Results: The mean KCAHW score was 15.19 ± 2.15. No significant differences were observed based on gender, age, academic title, or years of experience (p>0.05). Higher scores were found among participants who had received ASD-related training during residency, were familiar with DSM-5 criteria, or had read ASD-related literature (p

Substance-induced psychotic disorder (SIPD) is characterized by delusions and hallucinations occurring during or shortly after the intoxication or withdrawal phases of psychoactive substance (PAS) use. It represents a significant challenge within psychiatry, accounting for a notable proportion of first-episode psychosis cases. The prevalence of SIPD is influenced by the type, dose, and duration of substance use, as well as genetic and environmental factors. Diagnostic criteria from DSM-5 and ICD-10 emphasize the temporal link between substance use and psychotic symptoms, the exclusion of primary psychotic disorders, and the associated distress or functional impairment. The neurobiological mechanisms of SIPD differ across substances, implicating dopaminergic, glutamatergic, and serotonergic systems in its pathogenesis. Cannabinoids affect the endocannabinoid system, while methamphetamine and cocaine disrupt monoamine transporter function. Risk factors include genetic predisposition, polysubstance use, and comorbid psychiatric disorders. Clinical presentations vary, with cannabinoids often causing paranoid delusions, synthetic cannabinoids inducing severe psychotic symptoms, and methamphetamine and cocaine leading to tactile hallucinations and aggression. Treatment requires an integrated approach combining pharmacological and psychosocial strategies. Second-generation antipsychotics, such as clozapine and olanzapine, are preferred for their ability to reduce psychotic symptoms and substance craving. Cognitive-behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing effectively address both psychosis and substance use. Group therapies further enhance adherence and recovery by improving social functioning. Accurate diagnosis and individualized treatment are essential to prevent SIPD from progressing into chronic psychotic disorders like schizophrenia. Future research should focus on the complex interactions between genetic and environmental factors and the development of targeted, evidence-based treatments for SIPD.
