Marta Ramos-Andrés holds a BSc and MSc in Chemical Engineering (Extraordinary End of Studies Prize in both) from the University of Valladolid (UVa) in Spain, and a PhD in Chemical and Environmental Engineering (Cum Laude, 2022), completed within the PressTech group at the BioEcoUVa institute. Her PhD focused on developing a pilot-scale biorefinery for the valorization of agri-food waste biomass into bio-based products such as microencapsulated pigments, lactic acid, bioethanol, and purified biopolymers (arabinogalactan, homogalacturonan, and lignin-cellulose nanofibers). In 2020, she spent six months at Åbo Akademi University (Finland), where she developed fully bio-based films for food packaging using the purified biopolymers. During the final stage of her PhD (2021–2022), she joined the CARTIF technology center as a researcher in Biotechnology and Sustainable Chemistry. She contributed to four European projects and was PI of an industrial project, with research focused on CO₂ bioconversion into high-value products and the development of lignin-based bio-adhesives. In 2023, she joined CERENA at Instituto Superior Técnico – University of Lisbon– as a postdoctoral researcher. Her work focused on developing bio-derived carbon fibers from lignin using free and controlled radical polymerization (BioCFiber project). Since 2025, she has been a postdoctoral researcher in the PressTech group at the UVa, working on biorefineries and sustainable chemistry.
