Due to the complexity of the marine environment, underwater target search and interception is one of the biggest problems faced by an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). At present, there is quite a lot of research in terms of the two-dimensional environment. This paper proposes an improved rapidly exploring random trees (RRT) algorithm to solve the problem of target search and interception in an unknown three-dimensional (3D) environment. The RRT algorithm is combined with rolling planning and node screening to realize path planning in an unknown environment, and then the improved RRT algorithm is applied to the search and interception process in a 3D environment. Combined with the search decision function and the three-point numerical differential prediction method, the RRT algorithm can search for and effectively intercept the target. Numerical simulations in various situations show the superior performance, in terms of time and accuracy, of the proposed approach.

For the problem of AUV target searches in unknown underwater environments, a target search algorithm for AUVs based on a real-time perception map is proposed. Real-time perception maps, including target existence probability maps, uncertainty maps, and pheromone maps and their updating rules, are established. Attraction source maps and search status maps based on the environmental information detected by the AUV are established. The maps are used for the AUV to search for corner areas that are unknown to a high degree and areas with low coverage around the current location. At the same time, a release mechanism for attraction and revisiting pheromones is established by combining a neural excitation network algorithm to make the gradient spread in the pheromone grid map. By setting up a search revenue function based on real-time perception maps, an AUV search decision-making method is established. When the AUV finds a suspected target, the AUV approaches the suspected target. The path planning of the AUV is carried out through an improved artificial potential field method. The short-distance confirmation of the target and obstacle avoidance in the search process are realized. The simulation results show that the algorithm has high search efficiency. Additionally, when the target exists in a corner area, the probability of the AUV to quickly search for the target is fast and feasible.

To solve the problem of trajectory tracking control for the underactuated unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) in external current disturbance, a back-stepping sliding mode control method with double-loop structure is proposed in this paper. The outer-loop controller constructs the position error sliding surface through desired position error, obtains the kinematics control law by combining with power reaching law, and gets the error of virtual velocity after completing the design of trajectory tracking kinematics controller. The inner-loop controller constructs the sliding surface of longitudinal, horizontal, and vertical velocity error, respectively, with the help of the UUV speed error. Also, the trajectory tracking dynamic controller is designed by combining with the exponential reaching law, where the control moment is almost chattering-free. The stability of the double-loop control system is proved by combining with the Lyapunov stability theory. Finally, the simulation experiments verify the high effectiveness of the algorithm.

A predictive guidance obstacle avoidance algorithm (PGOA) in unknown environments is proposed for autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) that must adapt to multiple complex obstacle environments. Using the environmental information collected by the Forward-looking Sonar (FLS), the obstacle boundary is simplified by the convex algorithm and Bessel interpolation. Combining the predictive control secondary optimization function and the obstacle avoidance weight function, the predicting obstacle avoidance trajectory parameters are obtained. According to different types of obstacle environments, the corresponding obstacle avoidance rules are formulated. Lastly, combining with the obstacle avoidance parameters and rules, the AUV’s predicting obstacle avoidance trajectory point is obtained. Then AUV can successfully achieve obstacle avoidance using the guidance algorithm. The simulation results show that the PGOA algorithm can better predict the trajectory point of the obstacle avoidance path of AUV, and the secondary optimization function can successfully achieve collision avoidance for different complex obstacle environments. Lastly, comparing the execution efficiency and cost of different algorithms, which deal with various complex obstacle environments, simulation experiment results indicate the high efficiency and great adaptability of the proposed algorithm.

Among the key technologies of Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) leader–follower formations control, formation reconfiguration technology is one of the main technologies to ensure that multiple AUVs successfully complete their tasks in a complex operating environment. The biggest drawback of the leader–follower formations technology is the failure of the leader and the excessive communication pressure of the leader. Aiming at the problem of leader failure in multi- AUV leader–follower formations, the Hungarian algorithm is used to reconstruct the failed formation with a minimum cost, and the improvement of the Hungarian algorithm can solve the problem of a non-standard assignment. In order to solve the problem of an increased leader communication task after formation reconfiguration, the application of an event-triggered mechanism (ETM) can reduce unnecessary and useless communication, while the efficiency of the ETM can be improved through increasing the event-triggered conditions of the sampling error threshold. The simulation results of multi-AUV formation control show that the Hungarian algorithm proposed in this paper can deal with the leader failure in the multi-AUV leader–follower formation, and the ETM designed in this paper can reduce about 90% of the communication traffic of the formation which also proves the highly efficient performance of the improved ETM in the paper.

With the vigorous development of deep learning and the widespread use of mobile robots, automatic driving has gradually become a research hotspot. Environment perception is the most important part of automatic driving technology, and the purpose of environment perception is to distinguish the environmental content. Therefore, accurate and efficient image semantic segmentation method is becoming more and more important. In this paper, we introduce a deep semantic segmentation solution: IIE-SegNet: Deep semantic segmentation network with enhanced boundary based on image information entropy. At present, deep learning based on semantic segmentation solutions has some problems, such as low segmentation accuracy for small-scale objects and unclear boundary of segmented objects. Our method preserves the boundary of the segmentation object, and has higher segmentation accuracy for small-scale objects. In our method, the features of the underlying pooling layer are added to the ASPP structure of the encoding module, and the image information entropy of the previous pooling layers is introduced into the decoding module. We also introduce focal loss to solve the problem of imbalance between positive and negative samples. Finally, the test results on the extended Pascal VOC 2012 test set, abbreviated to Exp-Pascal VOC 2012 test set show that the proposed method has better performance on Exp-Pascal VOC 2012 test set compared with the advanced methods at the present stage, the segmentation accuracy of small-scale targets is higher, and the boundary is clearer.
