Wirginia Kukula-Koch is a full professor at the Department of Pharmacognosy, Medical University of Lublin, Poland. Her area of expertise is related to the fields of pharmacognosy and natural product chemistry. She is focused on the optimization of the extraction and separation conditions of alkaloids, phenolics, and saponins, with special attention paid to counter-current chromatography and the mass spectrometry-based identification of natural products. Also, she performs in vitro and in vivo testing in the search for procognitive and antioxidant compounds, with no need for their isolation from mixtures (TLC bioautography). She has 123 publications with 1937 citations and an h-index of 24 (Scopus, 24 March 2024). She is a member of the expert groups of the European Pharmacopoeia, the Polish Pharmacopeia, and the European Food Safety Authority.
