Breast cancer treatment causes upper extremity (UE) impairments. This study aims to assess the efficacy of Pilates-based exercises (PE) in comparison with combined exercise (CE) and home exercise (HE) groups, in the rehabilitation of UE disorders related with breast cancer treatment. Fifty-five patients were randomly allocated to PE, CE (consisting of strengthening, stretching and range of motion [ROM] exercises) and HE groups (consisting of CE group exercises). Pain (using visual analogue scale), ROM (using digital goniometer), muscle strength (using dynamometer and pinch gauge), functional status (using Constant-Murley scale and Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand scale) were evaluated before and after intervention. For data analyses (using spss 21 version), one-way ANOVA, paired samples t-test and Kruskal-Wallis test were performed (p ≤ .05 was considered statistically significant). The data obtained in this study revealed significant improvements in almost all the parameters measured in the PE and CE groups, and some improvements were superior to HE group. PE seemed to have resulted similar improvements in pain, muscle strength and functional status when compared to CE group. Therefore, PE seems to be an effective method of rehabilitation of patients with UE disorders related with breast cancer treatment, and might be considered for use as an alternative to CE in this population.

Background: It has been observed that there are difficulties in maintaining spinal harmony in the absence of proprioceptive information, which has an important role in achieving postural control in scoliosis. One of the tests used to evaluate proprioceptive mechanisms is joint position reproduction. Objective(s): The main aim of our study was to investigate the effect of physiotherapy scoliosis-specific exercise (PSSE) on spine joint reposition (JR) sense. The second aim was to determine the effects of PSSE on the angle of trunk rotation (ATR), posture, and deformity perception in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Methods: Twenty-nine patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (mean age 13.79 ± 1.82 years) were randomly allocated to two groups. “Schroth” exercises were applied to the PSSE group for 8 weeks (16 sessions). The control group was placed on the waiting list. Patients' JR error (dual inclinometer), ATR (scoliometer), posture parameters (PostureScreen Mobile, Posterior Trunk Asymmetry Index, and Anterior Trunk Asymmetry Index), and deformity perception (Walter Reed Visual Assessment Scale [WRVAS]) were assessed at the first session and at the end of 8 weeks. Results: The initial demographic characteristics, Cobb (thoracal: 19.41 ± 7.03 degrees; lumbar: 20.76 ± 7.24 degrees) and ATR (thoracal: 5.86 ± 3.98 degrees; lumbar: 5.66 ± 3.33 degrees) and clinical test parameters of the groups (JR, posture parameters, and WRVAS) were similar (P > .05). According to the findings, thoracal and lumbar JR error values (P < .05), ATR (P ≤ .001), posture parameters (P ≤ .001), and WRVAS (P = .048) were significantly improved in the PSSE group. Besides, when the groups were compared, a significant difference was found in favor of PSSE except for the deformity perception (P < .05). Conclusions: Schroth exercises have a positive contribution for improving JR sense of the spine, vertebral rotation, and posture.

The aim of this study was to determine prevalence of pain (p) in adults and their preference for pain treatment, by using questionnaire. First 7 questions of "Brief Pain Inventory-Short Form" and "Cornell Musculoskeletal Discomfort Questionnaire" were applied to 250 participants in face to face interview. A hundred eighty of the individuals were women (38.3±14.0 years old) and 70 were men (36.6±13.2 years old). Data analysis were performed using SPSS, version 10. Eighteen individuals (7.2%) had no pain and 232 (92.8%) of them had pain in different parts of the body. A hundred fourty five individuals had lowback p, 116 neck p, 101 dorsal p, 152 shoulder p, 69 upperarm p, 66 forearm p, 75 wrist p, 59 hip p, 69 upper leg p, 98 knee p, 81 crus pain. Their mean pain score was 3.6±1.8, mean pain score at its worst in the last 24 hours was 4.4±2.6. Thirty three percent of individuals had used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and/or analgesic drugs to relieve pain, 22.7% had physical therapy, 4.1% had other pain-relief methods, 1.2% had surgery, and 38% had nothing. Our results showed that 92.8% adults had pain. Although shoulder has highest pain prevalance, severe pain was mostly described in lowback area. Knee pain was largely interfered work ability. An important percent of persons experiencing pain has recieved no treatment and first preference for treatment was drug. Inspite of high pain prevalence in our study, slightly uncomfortable pain severity and no need for treatment can be explain a result of individual differences in pain perception.

Giriş ve Amaç: Sedanter Davranış Anketi’nin (SDA), 18-64 yaş arası sağlıklı bireylerde Türkçe kültürel adaptasyonunu ve güvenirlik çalışmasını yapmaktır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışmaya 220 (136 kadın, 84 erkek, yaş ort. 30,86±11,01 yıl) sağlıklı gönüllü dahil edildi. Hafta içi (Hİ) ve sonu (HS) olmak üzere toplamda 22 maddeden oluşan SDA’nın Türkçeye adaptasyonu 5 aşamada gerçekleştirildi: 1)İki kişi tarafından İngilizceden Türkçeye çeviri, 2)Ön çevirilerin karşılaştırılması ve düzenlenmesi, 3)Düzenlenen anketin Türkçeden İngilizceye çevrilmesi, 4)Çevirinin orijinal anketle karşılaştırılması, anketlerin harmonizasyonu, 5)Beş kişiye pilot uygulama ile anketin nihai hale getirilmesi. Benzer ölçek olan Uluslararası Fiziksel Aktivite Anketi kısa formu (UFAA-KF) oturma bölümüyle SDA arasında Pearson korelasyon bakılarak, anketin yapısal geçerliliği test edildi. Yedi gün arayla doldurulan SDA’nın güvenirliği, %95 güven aralığında (CI) test-retest ve iç tutarlılık katsayıları (ICC) ile değerlendirildi. Verilerin analizinde SPSS 24.0 kullanıldı. Bulgular: Yapısal geçerlik değerlendirildiğinde SDA-Hİ, HS ve toplam süreler ile UFAA-KF oturma süresi arasındaki korelasyon sırasıyla, r=0,254, p
