Aleš Nagode enrolled for postgraduate study at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, Department of Materials and Metallurgy, University of Ljubljana, where he was awarded a PhD in 2008. His PhD thesis was entitled 'An analysis of the creep behaviour of 9Cr-1Mo-0.2 V steel based on stress-dependent activation energy'. During his study, he was awarded Best Young Researcher's Presentation at the 13th Conference on Materials and Technology in Portorož in 2005. He began working at the Faculty of Natural Science, Department of Materials and Metallurgy, University of Ljubljana, as an assistant in 2009 and as a lecturer in 2012 in the field of physical metallurgy and acted as the chair of engineering materials. Throughout his research career, he has studied the behaviour of materials at elevated temperatures and stresses. He focuses on the micro and macro characterization of materials, surface characterization, and the synthesis of materials for surface prevention and performs failure analyses. He gives undergraduate and postgraduate lectures on the physical metallurgy of steel, heat treatment, composites, the physical metallurgy of non-ferrous alloys, and failure. Aleš Nagode has been a supervisor of two PhD students and a co-supervisor of one PhD student. Currently, he is a supervisor of a young researcher. He also cooperates with many Slovenian and foreign companies from the metal processing industry.
