Using the spectrum data for quality prediction always suffers from noise and colinearity, so variable selection method plays an important role to deal with spectrum data. An efficient elastic net with regression coefficients method (Enet-BETA) is proposed to select the significant variables of the spectrum data in this paper. The proposed Enet-BETA method can not only select important variables to make the quality easy to interpret, but also can improve the stability and feasibility of the built model. Enet-BETA method is not prone to overfitting because of the reduction of redundant variables realized by elastic net method. Hypothesis testing is used to further simplify the model and provide a better insight into the nature of process. The experimental results prove that the proposed Enet-BETA method outperforms the other methods in terms of prediction performance and model interpretation.
Background: Nucleosome plays an important role in the process of genome expression, DNA replication, DNA repair and transcription. Therefore, the research of nucleosome positioning has invariably received extensive attention. Considering the diversity of DNA sequence representation methods, we tried to integrate multiple features to analyze its effect in the process of nucleosome positioning analysis. This process can also deepen our understanding of the theoretical analysis of nucleosome positioning. Results: Here, we not only used frequency chaos game representation (FCGR) to construct DNA sequence features, but also integrated it with other features and adopted the principal component analysis (PCA) algorithm. Simultaneously, support vector machine (SVM), extreme learning machine (ELM), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), multilayer perceptron (MLP) and convolutional neural networks (CNN) are used as predictors for nucleosome positioning prediction analysis, respectively. The integrated feature vector prediction quality is significantly superior to a single feature. After using principal component analysis (PCA) to reduce the feature dimension, the prediction quality of H. sapiens dataset has been significantly improved. Conclusions: Comparative analysis and prediction on H. sapiens, C. elegans, D. melanogaster and S. cerevisiae datasets, demonstrate that the application of FCGR to nucleosome positioning is feasible, and we also found that integrative feature representation would be better.

A novel soft-sensing method for quality parameters of aviation kerosene in atmospheric distillation column based on least absolute shrinkage and selection operator and particle swarm optimization deep belief network (LASSO-PSO-DBN) is proposed. First, to reduce the dimension of the input variables, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) algorithm is used to select the input variables that are irrelevant to the soft sensor of aviation kerosene quality parameters. Then, to improve the generalization of soft sensor model, a deep learning algorithm, deep belief network (DBN), is proposed for soft sensing of aviation kerosene quality parameters. Considering that the structure characteristics and parameters of DBN algorithm have a great impact on the learning and prediction results, the parameters of DBN are optimized based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The benchmark data sets and the industrial atmospheric distillation column data are used for simulation analysis and evaluation of the soft-sensing performance. The simulation results show that the novel proposed algorithm can effectively reduce the dimension of the input variables and simplify the structure of the soft sensor model. It also has good generalization ability and the predicted value is in good agreement with the actual measured value.
