A simple approach for synthesizing a highly adsorbent composite was described for the uptake of heavy metal ions from wastewater. A simple approach for synthesizing a highly adsorbent composite was also described for the elimination of heavy metal ions from contaminated water. The nanocomposite was synthesized via a polymer grafting of chitosan on the activated carbon surface, followed by a stacking process with the layers of montmorillonite clay. The spectroscopic analyses were exploited to confirm the composite structure of the prepared materials. Various adsorption parameters, such as pH, initial concentration, and adsorption time, were assessed. The results showed that the adsorption capacity of the composite for Pb2+ ions increased as the pH increased until it reached pH 5.5. The maximum adsorption capacity was observed at an initial Pb2+ level of 20 mg/L and a contact time of 150 min. Kinetic models were evaluated, and the pseudo second-order model showed the best match. The adsorption isotherm data were processed by fitting the model with different isotherm behaviors, and the Langmuir isotherm was found to be the most suitable for the system. The maximum adsorption capacity for Pb2+ ion on the MMT/CS/AC composite was found to be 50 mg/g at pH 5.5. Furthermore, the composite maintained a high adsorption capability of 85% for five adsorption–desorption cycles. Overall, this composite is envisioned as an addition to the market of wastewater remediation technology due to its chemical structure, which provides influential functional groups for wastewater treatment.

Heat transfer analysis in an unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of generalized Casson fluid over a vertical plate is analyzed. The medium is porous, accepting Darcy’s resistance. The plate is oscillating in its plane with a cosine type of oscillation. Sodium alginate (SA–NaAlg) is taken as a specific example of Casson fluid. The fractional model of SA–NaAlg fluid using the Atangana–Baleanu fractional derivative (ABFD) of the non-local and non-singular kernel has been examined. The ABFD definition was based on the Mittag–Leffler function, and promises an improved description of the dynamics of the system with the memory effects. Exact solutions in the case of ABFD are obtained via the Laplace transform and compared graphically. The influence of embedded parameters on the velocity field is sketched and discussed. A comparison of the Atangana–Baleanu fractional model with an ordinary model is made. It is observed that the velocity and temperature profile for the Atangana–Baleanu fractional model are less than that of the ordinary model. The Atangana–Baleanu fractional model reduced the velocity profile up to 45.76% and temperature profile up to 13.74% compared to an ordinary model.

Different types of nanomaterials are used these days. Among them, clay nanoparticles are the one of the most applicable and affordable options. Specifically, clay nanoparticles have numerous applications in the field of medical science for cleaning blood, water, etc. Based on this motivation, this article aimed to study entropy generation in different drilling nanoliquids with clay nanoparticles. Entropy generation and natural convection usually occur during the drilling process of oil and gas from rocks and land, wherein clay nanoparticles may be included in the drilling fluids. In this work, water, engine oil and kerosene oil were taken as base fluids. A comparative analysis was completed for these three types of base fluid, each containing clay nanoparticles. Numerical values of viscosity and effective thermal conductivity were computed for the nanofluids based on the Maxwell–Garnett (MG) and Brinkman models. The closed-form solution of the formulated problem (in terms of partial differential equations with defined initial and boundary conditions) was determined using the Laplace transform technique. Numerical facts for temperature and velocity fields were used to calculate the Bejan number and local entropy generation. These solutions are uncommon in the literature and therefore this work can assist in the exact solutions of a number of problems of technical relevance to this type. Herein, the effect of different parameters on entropy generation and Bejan number minimization and maximization are displayed through graphs.

A novel synthesis of thiazolo[2,3-b]quinazolines 4(a–e), pyrido[2′,3′:4,5]thiazolo[2,3-b]quinazolines {5(a–e), 6(a–e), and 7(a–e)}, pyrano[2′,3′:4,5]thiazolo[2,3-b]quinazolines 8(a–e), and benzo[4,5]thiazolo[2,3-b]quinazoloine9(a–e) derivatives starting from 2-(Bis-methylsulfanyl-methylene)-5,5-dimethyl-cyclohexane-1,3-dione 2 as efficient α,α dioxoketen dithioacetal is reported and the synthetic approaches of these types of compounds will provide an innovative molecular framework to the designing of new active heterocyclic compounds. In our study, we also present optimization of the synthetic method along with a biological evaluation of these newly synthesized compounds as antioxidants and antibacterial agents against the bacterial strains, like S. aureus, E. coli, and P. aeruginosa. Among all the evaluated compounds, it was found that some showed significant antioxidant activity at 10 μg/mL while the others exhibited better antibacterial activity at 100 μg/mL. The results of this study showed that compound 6(c) possessed remarkable antibacterial activity, whereas compound 9(c) exhibited the highest efficacy as an antioxidant. The structures of the new synthetic compounds were elucidated by elemental analysis, IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR.

Electrocatalytic urea oxidation reaction (UOR) is a promising dual-purpose approach for hydrogen production and wastewater treatment, addressing critical energy and environmental challenges. However, conventional anode materials often suffer from limited active sites and high charge transfer resistance, restricting UOR efficiency. To overcome these issues, a novel NiP@PNC/NF electrocatalyst was developed via a one-step thermal annealing process under nitrogen, integrating nickel phosphide (NiP) with phosphorus and nitrogen co-doped carbon nanotubes (PNCs) on a nickel foam (NF) substrate. This design enhances catalytic activity and charge transfer, achieving current densities of 50 mA cm−2 at 1.34 V and 100 mA cm−2 at 1.43 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE). The electrode’s high electrochemical surface area (235 cm2) and double-layer capacitance (94.1 mF) reflect abundant active sites, far surpassing NiP/NF (48 cm2, 15.8 mF) and PNC/NF (39.5 cm2, 12.9 mF). It maintains exceptional stability, with only a 16.3% performance loss after 35 h, as confirmed by HR-TEM showing an intact nanostructure. Our single-step annealing technique provides simplicity, scalability, and efficient integration of NiP nanoparticles inside a PNC matrix on nickel foam. This method enables consistent distribution and robust substrate adhesion, which are difficult to attain with multi-step or more intricate techniques.

Magnetic nanomaterials (MNMs), particularly magnetically recoverable systems with efficient regeneration capability, have emerged as highly efficient nanoadsorbents for water purification owing to their high surface area, tunable surface chemistry, and facile magnetic separation. This review critically analyzes recent advances (2022–2025) in the multi-cycle use of MNMs, with particular emphasis on regeneration strategies. The major syn-thesis approaches and adsorption mechanisms are discussed in relation to their influence on long-term stability. Recent studies demonstrate that many MNMs retain 85–90% of their removal efficiency over 3–6 cycles, although performance degradation due to aggregation, leaching, and surface passivation remains a key challenge. Regeneration techniques, including chemical, solvent-based, and thermal methods, are evaluated in terms of efficiency and feasibility. Moreover, bibliometric analysis reveals the increasing research focus on recyclable nanomaterial design. Overall, this review elucidates the structure–performance–stability relationships governing multi-cycle operation, with a particular focus on reusable and magnetically separable systems and provides insights into the economic feasibility of regenerable MNMs along with future perspectives for sustainable and scalable water treatment applications.
