Marta graduated in Pharmacy at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and completed a Master's degree and Ph.D. in Sciences (Microbiology) at the same institution. Currently, she is a Full Professor in the Department of General Microbiology—Institute of Microbiology at UFRJ. She has experience in the field of Microbiology, with an emphasis in the Parasitology field, acting on the following topics: the expression of peptidases and proteolytic inhibitors on cell biology and the virulence of pathogenic microorganisms, as well as repositioning compounds to treat these infections.
