The performance of cooperative spectrum sensing in cognitive radio (CR) networks depends on the sensing mode, the sensing time and the number of cooperative users. In order to improve the sensing performance and reduce the interference to the primary user (PU), a periodic cooperative spectrum sensing model based on weight fusion is proposed in this paper. Moreover, the sensing period, the sensing time and the searching time are optimized, respectively. Firstly the sensing period is optimized to improve the spectrum utilization and reduce the interference, then the joint optimization algorithm of the local sensing time and the number of cooperative users, is proposed to obtain the optimal sensing time for improving the throughput of the cognitive radio user (CRU) during each period, and finally the water-filling principle is applied to optimize the searching time in order to make the CRU find an idle channel within the shortest time. The simulation results show that compared with the previous algorithms, the optimal sensing period can improve the spectrum utilization of the CRU and decrease the interference to the PU significantly, the optimal sensing time can make the CRU achieve the largest throughput, and the optimal searching time can make the CRU find an idle channel with the least time.

Cognitive radio (CR) has achieved increasing attention to improve the spectrum utilisation by allowing the coexistence of primary users (PUs) and cognitive users (CUs) in the same frequency band. As the spectrum of interest is licenced to primary network, power control must be carried out within the CR system so that no excessive interference is caused to PUs. In this study, the problem of power control is investigated in CR systems based on game theory subject to interference power constraint at PU and the signal‐to‐interference‐plus‐noise ratio (SINR) constraint of each CU. The objective is to reduce the power consumption caused by some CUs’ SINR over the target value. First, a non‐cooperation power control game is formulated, and then an adaptive power control algorithm based on feedback function is proposed. Moreover, the existence and uniqueness of Nash equilibrium are proved. Simulation results show that, compared with other distributed algorithms, the proposed algorithm can reduce the power consumption and overcome the near‐far effect.

This paper considers interference management and capacity improvement for Internet of Things (IoT) oriented two-tier networks by exploiting cognition between network tiers with interference alignment (IA). More specifically, we target our efforts on the next generation two-tier networks, where a tier of femtocell serving multiple IoT devices shares the licensed spectrum with a tier of pre-existing macrocell via a cognitive radio. Aiming to manage the cross-tier interference caused by cognitive spectrum sharing as well as ensure an optimal capacity of the femtocell, two novel self-organizing cognitive IA schemes are proposed. First, we propose an interference nulling based cognitive IA scheme. In such a scheme, both co-tier and cross-tier interferences are aligned into the orthogonal subspace at each IoT receiver, which means all the interference can be perfectly eliminated without causing any performance degradation on the macrocell. However, it is known that the interference nulling based IA algorithm achieves its optimum only in high signal to noise ratio (SNR) scenarios, where the noise power is negligible. Consequently, when the imposed interference-free constraint on the femtocell can be relaxed, we also present a partial cognitive IA scheme that further enhances the network performance under a low and intermediate SNR. Additionally, the feasibility conditions and capacity analyses of the proposed schemes are provided. Both theoretical and numerical results demonstrate that the proposed cognitive IA schemes outperform the traditional orthogonal precoding methods in terms of network capacity, while preserving for macrocell users the desired quality of service.

Visual localization is employed for indoor navigation and embedded in various applications, such as augmented reality and mixed reality. Image retrieval and geometrical measurement are the primary steps in visual localization, and the key to improving localization efficiency is to reduce the time consumption of the image retrieval. Therefore, a hierarchical clustering-based image-retrieval method is proposed to hierarchically organize an off-line image database, resulting in control of the time consumption of image retrieval within a reasonable range. The image database is hierarchically organized by two stages: scene-level clustering and sub-scene-level clustering. In scene-level clustering, an improved cumulative sum algorithm is proposed to detect change points and then group images by global features. On the basis of scene-level clustering, a feature tracking-based method is introduced to further group images into sub-scene-level clusters. An image retrieval algorithm with a backtracking mechanism is designed and applied for visual localization. In addition, a weighted KNN-based visual localization method is presented, and the estimated query position is solved by the Armijo–Goldstein algorithm. Experimental results indicate that the running time of image retrieval does not linearly increase with the size of image databases, which is beneficial to improving localization efficiency.

For vision-based localization methods, the efcient and accurate image retrieval in a database with a large number of images is an important prerequisite and guarantee. The traditional content-based image retrieval method can retrieve database images that have similar details and features with the query image. However, there may be signicant differences in semantics between them, which may result in mismatches. The method based on convolutional neural network can avoid such problems to a certain extent. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end weakly supervised class-agnostic image retrieval method based on convolutional neural networks. In the ofine stage, the database images are preprocessed to separate the foregrounds and backgrounds, and the foregrounds are clustered for storage. The aim is to reduce the amount of data calculation in the online stage and avoid mismatches caused by backgrounds mixing. In the online stage, the same processing is performed on the query image, and the improved method based on the relational network is used to compare the similarity between the input objects to obtain the optimal retrieval result. The test results on Holidays, Paris 6k, Oxford 5k and three large-scale datasets show that the proposed method has better performance than existing image retrieval methods.

Recently, monocular localization has attracted increased attention due to its application to indoor navigation and augmented reality. In this paper, a drift-aware monocular localization system that performs global and local localization is presented based on a pre-constructed dense three-dimensional (3D) map. In global localization, a pixel-distance weighted least squares algorithm is investigated for calculating the absolute scale for the epipolar constraint. To reduce the accumulative errors that are caused by the relative position estimation, a map interaction-based drift detection method is introduced in local localization, and the drift distance is computed by the proposed line model-based maximum likelihood estimation sample consensus (MLESAC) algorithm. The line model contains a fitted line segment and some visual feature points, which are used to seek inliers of the estimated feature points for drift detection. Taking advantage of the drift detection method, the monocular localization system switches between the global and local localization modes, which effectively keeps the position errors within an expected range. The performance of the proposed monocular localization system is evaluated on typical indoor scenes, and experimental results show that compared with the existing localization methods, the accuracy improvement rates of the absolute position estimation and the relative position estimation are at least 30.09% and 65.59%, respectively.
