Dr. Alvaro R. Osornio-Vargas is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta and an Adjunct Professor at the School of Public Health, University of Michigan, Rutgers School of Public Health, and the School of Public Health, University of Alberta. His research interest is in air pollution and related health effects. Specifically, he has focused on the impact of pollutant mixtures at the experimental and population level. He obtained his Medical, Master's, and Ph.D. Degrees from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico and had two postdoctoral experiences, one at the University of Maryland and another at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. He previously worked as a researcher at the Mexican National Cancer Institute and on the Advisory Board for the Commission for Environmental Cooperation on Children’s Environmental Health. In 2009, he joined the Department of Paediatrics, University of Alberta, to develop the research segment of a Children’s Environmental Health initiative.
