Prof. Dr. Maria Cañizares

Biography

My name is María del Pilar Cañizares Macías, born in Mexico City. I am currently a Professor and Researcher at the Faculty of Chemistry, National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). I earned my undergraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Biological Chemistry at UNAM and later completed my Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Córdoba, Spain, in 1996. My doctoral work focused on developing methodologies for continuous flow analysis and chemical sensors. Throughout my career, I have expanded into diverse areas of Analytical Chemistry, including microfluidics, gas and liquid chromatography, characterization of natural products, sample treatment using microwave and ultrasound energy, and metabolite analysis in agro-industrial waste. My research aims to improve analytical processes in terms of time and precision while promoting environmentally sustainable practices. I have published over 40 scientific articles and authored two textbooks on chemical equilibria and titration techniques to support chemistry education. I am deeply committed to enhancing teaching quality, convinced that educational excellence drives research progress and ultimately improves societal well-being.
