Dr. Esen Yonca Bassoy is a Research Fellow in Immuno-oncology at Mayo Clinic, Arizona, where her research focuses on identifying clinically actionable molecular targets that enhance anti-tumor immune responses in ovarian cancer. She completed her PhD in Cancer Biology and Immunology from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, in 2016, where she was awarded "Best Ph.D. thesis in 2016" by the Ph.D. school of Geneva. Her doctoral work on mitochondrial dynamics and tumor immune evasion in glioma stem-like cells was published as a cover article in The EMBO Journal (2017).
Her areas of expertise include cancer stem cell biology, tumor immune evasion mechanisms, innate and adaptive immunity, and integrated multi-omics approaches for therapeutic target discovery in immuno-oncology. At Mayo Clinic, her work focuses on tumor antigen discovery and immune signaling pathways in ovarian cancer. She has published in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and received the Outstanding Presentation prize at the 2025 Science of Medicine Grand Rounds at Mayo Clinic.
