Purpose: The aim of the presented in vitro study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the device DIAGNOcam and the laser fluorescence device DIAGNOdent for early diagnosis of occlusal caries and to compare it with three traditional methods – visual and tactile, dye and radiographic examination.\ud Material and methods: The sample consisted of 60 extracted human teeth. Three clinicians diagnosed independently the presence or absence of early occlusal surface caries with the visible tactile method,DIAGNOcam andDIAGNOdent. Then X-rays were taken and the dentists viewed them separately, without magnification.Fuchsine was applied for 30 sec. and then washed under running water for 20 min. Places where dye was present were registered. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS package of Windows.\ud Results: The results showed high level of correspondence between the authors for all the diagnostic methods. Concerning different methods applied for caries diagnosis there was a correlation between the methods, but it was diverging for the different methods. No correlation between radiographic exam and data obtained with DIAGNOdent and dye staining was observed.\ud Conclusions: Based on the obtained results we may conclude that the least sensitive method for fissure caries diagnosis was the dye staining, followed by the radiographic exam. The results, obtained by DIAGNOdent and DIAGNOcam were very close, but DIAGNOcams’ data was better correlating with the clinical results.DIAGNOcam procedure can be judged as equivalent in the detection of occlusal dentine lesions when compared to clinical results

Early caries detection is essential for minimal intervention dentistry, since it could give the opportunity to reverse the process and eliminate or at least postpone the surgical treatment. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of near-infrared transillumination in early caries diagnosis for both occlusal and proximal lesions. Thirty-eight adult patients were included in the study. The results from the visual, radiological and near-infrared transillumination examination for proximal caries lesions were compared. The diagnostic abilities of these methods for occlusal lesions were assayed on 60 teeth. The three methods showed a very high level of correlation when there were caries lesions involving the enamel and dentin. Concerning proximal caries involving only the enamel, the visual--tactile diagnosis proved to be insufficiently sensitive even with the use of magnification. Radiographic examination and near-infrared transillumination correlated significantly, but the latter was more sensitive. Radiographic examination proved to be insufficiently sensitive for occlusal lesions. The results obtained with the near-infrared fluorescence correlated most with the visual–tactile examination. These results suggest that near-infrared transillumination is an effective method for diagnosis of lesions both involving only the enamel and involving the enamel and dentin. It could be used for both occlusal and proximal caries lesions and it could eventually substitute radiographic bitewings, especially in children and pregnant women, due to its efficiency as a diagnostic tool and the absence of radiation.

Aim: The aim of the presented study is to compare the effectiveness of the diagnosis with a dental microscope, laser fluorescence (DIAGNOcam) and X-ray examination in proximal caries diagnosis.\ud Material and methods: Thirty-eight adult patients were examined. They were first examined with a dental mirror and a probe, under magnification 6.4 times. After that a diagnosis with DIAGNOcam was performed. Bitewing X-ray images were administered. The data from the three diagnostic methods was compared using SPSS 16 package of Windows. The lesions that were diagnosed as involving dentin were then excavated which served as a confirmation of the diagnosis.\ud Results: The results of the study showed that dentinal lesions were detected with a high degree of correlation with all three diagnostic methods. The visual examination seriously underestimated lesions involving only enamel. In these cases there was a good correlation between laser fluorescence and X-ray data.\ud Conclusions: Based on the conducted study we could conclude that the diagnosis of proximal caries with DIAGNOcam is equivalent to X-ray, both being more accurate in cases with early lesions, compared to visual diagnosis
A four‐year follow‐up of a novel silane heat treatment method for bonding lithium disilicate overlays to tooth structures without hydrofluoric acid etching of the ceramic surface is presented in this case report. Silane heat treatment modifies the silane layer and thus enhances resin ceramic bond strength without hydrofluoric acid etching. The standard ceramic preparation technique prior to bonding silicate ceramics to tooth structure is hydrofluoric acid etching and applying a silane coupling agent, followed by dental adhesive. In this case, the micromechanical roughening of the ceramic surface was performed by air abrasion with Al 2 O 3 . Silane heat treatment with constant 120°C airflow, applied for 60 sec, followed by dental adhesive application enhanced the resin‐ceramic bond strength. After a four‐year follow‐up, the restorations’ clinical appearance could be defined as excellent/very good according to the FDI clinical criteria for the evaluation of direct and indirect restorations. This clinical result supports many in vitro studies regarding the resin‐ceramic bond strength and durability obtained through postsilanization heat treatment.

Mesenchymal stem cells derived from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED) are a promising source for regenerative therapies due to their multipotency, proliferative capacity, and immunomodulatory properties. The present study aimed to isolate and characterize SHED subpopulations based on CD71 and CD146 expression and evaluate their multilineage differentiation potential. SHED were obtained from pediatric donors and separated into CD71+, CD71−, CD146+, and CD146− fractions using magnetic-activated cell sorting (MACS). CD71+/CD71− and CD146+/CD146− populations were isolated independently; no simultaneous double sorting for both markers was performed. Immunocytochemistry was employed to confirm the expression of surface and intracellular markers, including STRO-1, CD44, nestin, and vimentin. Multilineage differentiation assays toward osteogenic, adipogenic, and chondrogenic lineages revealed that CD71+ cells exhibited reduced osteogenic capacity compared to CD71− cells, whereas CD146+ cells showed enhanced osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation. Chondrogenic differentiation seemed unaffected by marker expression under the 2D conditions employed. These results highlight functional heterogeneity within SHED populations and indicate that CD71 and CD146 independently influence differentiation outcomes. The selective enrichment of CD146+ SHED may enhance osteogenic and adipogenic regenerative applications, while CD71+ subsets may serve as a valuable model for studying proliferation and paracrine effects. Limitations include the use of in vitro differentiation assays and the absence of in vivo validation; additionally, combined CD71/CD146 analysis may further clarify the relationship between metabolic activity and stem/progenitor niche characteristics. Overall, marker-based characterization of SHED subpopulations provides insight into their biological properties and potential utility in targeted cell-based therapeutic strategies.
