This paper investigates the path-tracking control issue for autonomous ground vehicles with the integral sliding mode control (ISMC) considering the transient performance improvement. The path-tracking control is converted into the yaw stabilization problem, where the sideslip-angle compensation is adopted to reduce the steady-state errors, and then the yaw-rate reference is generated for the path-tracking purpose. The lateral velocity and roll angle are estimated with the measurement of the yaw rate and roll rate. Three contributions have been made in this paper: 1) To enhance the estimation accuracy for the vehicle states in the presence of the parametric uncertainties caused by the lateral and roll dynamics, a robust extended Kalman filter is proposed based on the minimum model error algorithm; 2) An improved adaptive radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) considering the approximation error adaptation is developed to compensate for the uncertainties caused by the vertical motion; 3) The RBFNN and composite nonlinear feedback (CNF)-based ISMC is developed to achieve the yaw stabilization and enhance the transient tracking performance considering the input saturation of the front steering angle. The overall stability is proved with Lyapunov function. Finally, the superiority of the developed control strategy is verified by comparing with the traditional CNF with high-fidelity CarSim-Matlab simulations.

Virtual Coupling (VC) is regarded as a breakthrough to the traditional train operation and control for improving the capability and flexibility in railways. It brings benefits as trains under VC are allowed to operate much closer to one another, forming a virtually coupled train set (VCTS). However, the safe and stable spacing between trains in the VCTS is a problem since there are no rigid couplers to connect them into a fixed formation, especially in high-speed scenarios. Due to the close spacing, the interference between trains becomes non-negligible as various maneuvers of the preceding train can significantly affect driving behaviors of the following train; this results in fluctuating spacing and therefore an unstable VCTS. Aiming at minimizing the interference and maintaining constantly safe spacing between trains in the VCTS, this paper presents a distributed model predictive control (DMPC) approach for solving the high-speed VCTS control problem. Particularly, the proposed control method focuses on the feasibility and stability of this problem, with considerations of the coupled constraint of safety braking distance and the individual constraints of speed limit variations and restricted traction/braking performance. To guarantee feasibility and stability, the terminal controller and invariant set of the DMPC are designed. For rigor, sufficient conditions of feasibility and stability are mathematically proved and derived. Based on the data of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway line, numerical experiments are conducted to verify the correctness of derived sufficient conditions and the effectiveness of the proposed control method under interference and disturbances.

Differential drive assistance steering (DDAS) is an emerging assisted steering mechanism in in-wheel-motor driven (IWMD) electric vehicles, yielded by the differential moment of the front tires in the steering system. DDAS can steer the front wheels when there is no steering power from the steering motor, and thus can be used as a redundant steering mechanism. To realize the yaw control when the active front steering entirely breaks down and guarantee the transient control performance therein, this paper proposes an integral sliding mode control (ISMC) approach for IWMD electric vehicles steered by DDAS. Two contributions are made in this paper: 1) An improved disturbance observer based ISMC strategy is designed to cope with the unknown mismatched disturbances, and the composite nonlinear feedback technique is employed to design the nominal part of the controller to restrain overshoots and remove steady-state errors considering the tire force saturations; 2) An adaptive super-twisting control approach is proposed to deal with the disturbances with unknown boundaries using a continuous controller while eliminating the chattering effect. The system stability and robustness are proved via Lyapunov approach. CarSim-Simulink simulation has verified the effectiveness of the proposed control approach in the case of the steering fault.

Motion control algorithms in the presence of pedes- trians are critical for the development of safe and reliable Autonomous Vehicles (AVs). Traditional motion control algo- rithms rely on manually designed decision-making policies which neglect the mutual interactions between AVs and pedestrians. On the other hand, recent advances in Deep Reinforcement Learning allow for the automatic learning of policies without manual designs. To tackle the problem of decision-making in the presence of pedestrians, the authors introduce a framework based on Social Value Orientation and Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) that is capable of generating decision-making policies with different driving styles. The policy is trained using state- of-the-art DRL algorithms in a simulated environment. A novel computationally-efficient pedestrian model that is suitable for DRL training is also introduced. We perform experiments to validate our framework and we conduct a comparative analysis of the policies obtained with two different model-free Deep Reinforcement Learning Algorithms. Simulations results show how the developed model exhibits natural driving behaviours, such as short-stopping, to facilitate the pedestrian's crossing.

This article addresses the issue of networked lane keeping security control for autonomous vehicles subject to aperiodic controller-targeted denial-of-service (DoS) attacks, taking into account time-varying driving speed and nonlinear tire cornering stiffness. To accurately estimate the incompletely measured states and capture the dynamic behaviors appearing at the end of aperiodic DoS attacks, full state gain adjustable switching observer is established for the fuzzy vehicle-road integrated dynamic systems obtained via the tensor product model transformation method. In order to ensure the control quality and simultaneously save the communication resource, new resilient adaptive event triggered scheme is proposed with reinforcement learning-based intelligent optimal threshold regulation mechanism based on observed states. Then, an augmented observer-based fuzzy switching system is constructed using the time delay method. Additionally, sufficient conditions are established to guarantee global exponential stability of the closed-loop nonlinear lane keeping system with prescribed H∞ performance using piecewise Lyapunov functional analysis approach. Subsequently, the gains for controller, observer and trigger are co-designed and computed by solving certain matrix inequalities. Finally, the effectiveness of proposed security control method is demonstrated through typical maneuver scenario in terms of reasonable triggered times, better tracking performances and acceptable lateral dynamics.
