SUMMARY One of the main challenges in robotics is navigating autonomously through large, unknown, and unstructured environments. Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) is currently regarded as a viable solution for this problem. As the traditional metric approach to SLAM is experiencing computational difficulties when exploring large areas, increasing attention is being paid to topological SLAM, which is bound to provide sufficiently accurate location estimates, while being significantly less computationally demanding. This paper intends to provide an introductory overview of the most prominent techniques that have been applied to topological SLAM in terms of feature detection, map matching, and map fusion.

The proliferation of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) is paving the way for new energy-efficient services that aim to make end-users more active. According to the literature, these services will be managed by a central figure, aggregators. This paper proposes several business models to accommodate them in the electric power industry. Several potential alternatives are identified from the study of different design elements, such as the control strategy, architecture, and signals that need to be exchanged. These alternatives are then tested by analyzing pairwise relationships between all the actors involved (Aggregator-Prosumers, Aggregator-DSO, and Aggregator-TSO). Every business model is first explained individually, including how contracts would operate, in order to determine their advantages and drawbacks. Finally, a comparison of all the alternatives is put forward together with an overview of the main initiatives that have already been implemented.

Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) is a powerful framework for solving complex sequential decision-making problems, particularly in robotic control. However, its practical deployment is often hindered by the substantial amount of experience required for learning, which results in high computational and time costs. In this work, we propose a novel integration of DRL with semantic knowledge in the form of Knowledge Graph Embeddings (KGEs), aiming to enhance learning efficiency by providing contextual information to the agent. Our architecture combines KGEs with visual observations, enabling the agent to exploit environmental knowledge during training. Experimental validation with robotic manipulators in environments featuring both fixed and randomized target attributes demonstrates that our method achieves up to 60% reduction in learning time and improves task accuracy by approximately 15 percentage points, without increasing training time or computational complexity. These results highlight the potential of semantic knowledge to reduce sample complexity and improve the effectiveness of DRL in robotic applications.
