Cloud computing is a recently developed new technology for complex systems with massive-scale service sharing. Cloud reliability analysis and modeling are not easy tasks because of the complexity and large scale of the system. Due to the complexity of cloud computing systems, the reliability models for pure software/hardware or conventional networks cannot be simply applied to study the cloud reliability. This paper focuses on reliability evaluation using hybrid methods, which combine MTTF/MTTR and CTMC models. We take into account not only service faults, but also the effect of physical-resource breakdowns. Based on the proposed model, the formal calculation of the system's reliability is given. The effectiveness of the approach is illustrated through an example. © 2013 Copyright TSI® Press.

Accurately identifying and locating water-crossing objects is of utmost importance for environmental protection. However, traditional detection algorithms often exhibit poor anti-interference performance and low detection accuracy in complex environments. To address these issues, this paper proposes a YOLOW algorithm based on a one-stage object detection algorithm for the automatic identification of water objects. The proposed algorithm incorporates two new modules, namely the SPDCS module and the SPPAUG module, to improve the model’s performance. Specifically, the SPDCS module retains all information in the channel dimension, thereby enhancing the model’s detection accuracy and recognition ability for water-crossing objects. The SPPAUG module performs multiscale feature fusion, which further improves the model’s detection accuracy and recognition ability. Moreover, the C2f module is introduced from YOLOv8 to increase the detection speed. Experimental results on a water-floating object dataset demonstrate that the improved YOLOW model outperforms the standard YOLOv5s algorithm, especially in water-crossing object detection. This research has significant implications for environmental monitoring and protection.

In recent years, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become a popular and cost-effective technology in urban scenarios, encompassing applications such as material transportation, aerial photography, remote sensing, and disaster relief. However, the execution of prolonged tasks poses a heightened challenge owing to the constrained endurance of UAVs. This paper proposes a model to accurately represent urban scenarios and an unmanned system. Restricted zones, no-fly zones, and building obstructions to the detection range are introduced to make sure the model is realistic enough. We also introduced an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) into the model to solve the endurance of the UAVs in this long-time task scenario. The UGV and UAVs constituted a heterogeneous unmanned system to collaboratively solve the path-planning problem in the model. Building upon this model, this paper designs a Three-stage Alternating Optimization Algorithm (TAOA), involving two crucial steps of prediction and rolling optimization. A three-stage scheme is introduced to rolling optimization to effectively address the complex optimization process for the unmanned system. Finally, the TAOA was experimentally validated in both synthetic scenarios and scenarios modeled based on a real-world location to demonstrate their reliability. The experiments conducted in the synthetic scenarios aimed to assess the algorithm under hypothetical conditions, while the experiments in the scenarios based on real-world locations provided a practical evaluation of the proposed methods in more complex and authentic environments. The consistent performance observed across these experiments underscores the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed approaches, supporting their potential applicability in various real-world scenarios.

The prediction of hydrological time series is of great significance for developing flood and drought prevention approaches and is an important component in research on smart water resources. The nonlinear characteristics of hydrological time series are important factors affecting the accuracy of predictions. To enhance the prediction of the nonlinear component in hydrological time series, we employed an improved whale optimisation algorithm (IWOA) to optimise an attention-based long short-term memory (ALSTM) network. The proposed model is termed IWOA-ALSTM. Specifically, we introduced an attention mechanism between two LSTM layers, enabling adaptive focus on distinct features within each time unit to gather information pertaining to a hydrological time series. Furthermore, given the critical impact of the model hyperparameter configuration on the prediction accuracy and operational efficiency, the proposed improved whale optimisation algorithm facilitates the discovery of optimal hyperparameters for the ALSTM model. In this work, we used nonlinear water level information obtained from Hankou station as experimental data. The results of this model were compared with those of genetic algorithms, particle swarm optimisation algorithms and whale optimisation algorithms. The experiments were conducted using five evaluation metrics, namely, the RMSE, MAE, NSE, SI and DR. The results show that the IWOA is effective at optimising the ALSTM and significantly improves the prediction accuracy of nonlinear hydrological time series.

Remote sensing image change detection (RSCD) holds significant application value in fields such as environmental monitoring, post-disaster assessment, and urban planning. However, existing deep learning methods often face challenges of high computational complexity and insufficient detail capture, particularly demonstrating limited performance in detecting high-resolution images and complex change regions. To address these issues, this paper proposes a novel network architecture, TIMA-Net, which is designed for efficient remote sensing image change detection. By introducing the timing interaction enhancement module and the progressive decoder based on multi-scale fusion, TIMA-Net improves the accuracy of change detection while ensuring efficient computing performance. Specifically, TIMA-Net designs a temporal interaction enhancement module based on dual-branch and coordinate attention and combines channel segmentation and multi-scale features to enhance the representation ability of the changed region. The comparative experimental results show that TIMA-Net outperforms several state-of-the-art methods on multiple remote sensing datasets, especially in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency. The ablation experiment results show that each module contributes to the final performance. In summary, TIMA-Net not only provides an efficient and accurate remote sensing image change detection solution but also shows its strong potential and broad application prospects in practical applications.

Semantic segmentation of high-resolution remote sensing images is of great application value in fields like natural disaster monitoring. Current multimodal semantic segmentation methods have improved the model’s ability to recognize different ground objects and complex scenes by integrating multi-source remote sensing data. However, these methods still face challenges such as blurred boundary segmentation and insufficient perception of multi-scale ground objects when achieving high-precision classification. To address these issues, this paper proposes MMA-Net, a semantic segmentation network enhanced by two key modules: cross-layer multimodal fusion module and multi-scale multi-attention module. These modules effectively improve the model’s ability to capture detailed features and model multi-scale ground objects, thereby enhancing boundary segmentation accuracy, detail feature preservation, and consistency in multi-scale object segmentation. Specifically, the cross-layer multimodal fusion module adopts a staged fusion strategy to integrate detailed information and multimodal features, realizing detail preservation and modal synergy enhancement. The multi-scale multi-attention module combines cross-attention and self-attention to leverage long-range dependencies and inter-modal complementary relationships, strengthening the model’s feature representation for multi-scale ground objects. Experimental results show that MMA-Net outperforms state-of-the-art methods on the Potsdam and Vaihingen datasets. Its mIoU reaches 88.74% and 84.92% on the two datasets, respectively. Ablation experiments further verify that each proposed module contributes to the final performance.
