The rising demand for electricity and its essential nature in today's world call for intelligent home energy management systems that can reduce energy usage. This article aims a novel way to develop a learning system that can learn from experience to shift loads from one time instance to another and achieve the goal of minimizing the aggregate peak load. Specifically, this article proposes a deep reinforcement learning model for demand response where the virtual agent learns the task like humans learns a task. The agent gets feedback for every action it takes in the environment; these feedbacks will drive the agent to learn about the environment and take much smarter steps later in its learning stages. The proposed approach outperformed the state of the art mixed integer linear programming for load peak reduction. Other key contribution is the design of an agent to minimize both consumer electricity bills and system peak load demand simultaneously. The proposed model was analyzed with loads from five different residential consumers; the method increases the monthly savings of each consumer by reducing their electricity bill drastically along with minimizing the peak load of the grid.

The feature selection method is the process of selecting only relevant features by removing irrelevant or redundant features amongst the large number of features that are used to represent data. Nowadays, many application domains especially social media networks, generate new features continuously at different time stamps. In such a scenario, when the features are arriving in an online fashion, to cope up with the continuous arrival of features, the selection task must also have to be a continuous process. Therefore, the streaming feature selection based approach has to be incorporated, i.e., every time a new feature or a group of features arrives, the feature selection process has to be invoked. Again, in recent years, there are many application domains that generate data where samples may belong to more than one classes called multi-label dataset. The multiple labels that the instances are being associated with, may have some dependencies amongst themselves. Finding the co-relation amongst the class labels helps to select the discriminative features across multiple labels. In this article, we develop streaming feature selection methods for multi-label data where the multiple labels are reduced to a lower-dimensional space. The similar labels are grouped together before performing the selection method to improve the selection quality and to make the model time efficient. The multi-objective version of the cuckoo search-based approach is used to select the optimal feature set. The proposed method develops two versions of the streaming feature selection method: ) when the features arrive individually and ) when the features arrive in the form of a batch. Various multi-label datasets from various domains such as text, biology, and audio have been used to test the developed streaming feature selection methods. The proposed methods are compared with many previous feature selection methods and from the comparison, the superiority of using multiple objectives and label co-relation in the feature selection process can be established.

The performance of the supervised learning algorithms such as k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) depends on the labeled data. For some applications (Target Domain), obtaining such labeled data is very expensive and labor-intensive. In a real-world scenario, the possibility of some other related application (Source Domain) is always accompanied by sufficiently labeled data. However, there is a distribution discrepancy between the source domain and the target domain application data as the background of collecting both the domains data is different. Therefore, source domain application with sufficient labeled data cannot be directly utilized for training the target domain classifier. Domain Adaptation (DA) or Transfer learning (TL) provides a way to transfer knowledge from source domain application to target domain application. Existing DA methods may not perform well when there is a much discrepancy between the source and the target domain data, and the data is non-linear separable. Therefore, in this paper, we provide a Kernelized Unified Framework for Domain Adaptation (KUFDA) that minimizes the discrepancy between both the domains on linear or non-linear data-sets and aligns them both geometrically and statistically. The substantial experiments verify that the proposed framework outperforms state-of-the-art Domain Adaptation and the primitive methods (Non-Domain Adaptation) on real-world Office-Caltech and PIE Face data-sets. Our proposed approach (KUFDA) achieved mean accuracies of 86.83% and 74.42% for all possible tasks of Office-Caltech with VGG-Net features and PIE Face data-sets.

The convergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is significantly transforming the landscape of future networking. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technological paradigm that encompasses embedded systems, wireless sensors, and automation, facilitating the integration of various applications ranging from smart homes to wearable devices. In addition, the advent of artificial intelligence (AI) amplifies this influence by providing data-driven analytics, optimising processes, and presenting novel opportunities for growth. Nevertheless, the widespread adoption of devices within Internet of Things (IoT) networks gives rise to apprehensions regarding increased energy consumption. In order to ensure the longevity of network operations, it is imperative to employ energy-efficient protocols for sensor nodes that possess limited power resources. One example of a protocol that demonstrates this concept is the Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) protocol. This protocol effectively divides networks into clusters and dynamically adjusts the cluster heads to optimise the transmission of data to the base stations. Our study enhances the LEACH protocol by incorporating digital twin simulation, thereby enhancing the efficiency of IoT systems. Virtual network models and AI analytics are employed to assess energy consumption and performance. Cache nodes play a crucial role within this framework as they collect data from cluster heads in order to transmit it to the base station. By leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and simulation techniques, we are able to improve the energy efficiency and reliability of the Internet of Things (IoT) systems. The findings indicate a significant reduction of 83% in non-functioning nodes and a notable increase of 1.66 times in energy levels of nodes compared to conventional approaches. This study highlights a potential direction for energy-efficient, AI-enhanced Internet of Things (IoT) networking through the utilisation of the Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) protocol.
