Dr. Asunción Bautista is a Full Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Carlos III University of Madrid (Spain). She received her Bsc. in Chemistry (Electrochemistry) from the Autonoma University of Madrid in 1992 and Ph. D. in Materials Science from the Complutense University of Madrid. She has worked for decades in the field of reinforcement corrosion, focusing much of her research on the durability of reinforcing steel in concrete structures. She also has valuable experience in the development of sustainable and durable cementitious materials—particularly those based on alternative low-clinker binders—and in the study of their degradation processes under aggressive exposure conditions. Furthermore, she is actively involved in research on the development of organic powder coatings and the optimization of their durability. She has been a co-author of 115 articles in prestigious scientific journals (62 of which were published in first quartile of JCR) and has been recognized by Stanford University as a Top Author because of the impact of her contributions in 2022, 2023, and 2025, as well as for the global impact of her professional career. Her research interests include: durability, concrete reinforcements, alternative cements, organic coatings, corrosion protection, and electrochemistry
