This paper presents CHIMERA, a third-generation digital holographic printing system that solves the known problems of the two previous generations. This holoprinter is based on the use of low-power RGB continuous lasers combined with the ultrafine-grain silver-halide material Ultimate U04 and is capable of printing at a frequency equal to or greater than 25 hogels per second, full-color, 120° full-parallax digital reflection holograms or holographic optical elements with a size of up to $60 \times 80\,\,{\rm{cm}}$ and a hogel size ranging from 250 to 500 µm. A 3D scanner using a 4K video camera has been specially designed for scanning real objects printable on CHIMERA, which offers new achievements in terms of color rendition, palette, and accuracy and opens new perspectives for digital holography applications and holography in general.

When a near-eye display (NED) device reproduces an image at a location close to the eye, the virtual image is implemented at a large angle. The uniformity of the image is unbalanced due to the change in diffraction efficiency by the hologram recording angle and angular selectivity. This study proposes a method for implementing an optimal uniform image by analyzing the diffraction efficiency and the reconstructed image was analyzed using angular selectivity generated while reproducing the source point of the diffused image as an intermediate element by holographic optical element (HOE). This research provides practical results for displaying high diffraction efficiency and immersive holographic images in the NED system with HOE as uniformed intermediate elements.

For 60 years, high-energy pulsed lasers have enabled the recording of extremely realistic portraits of living people within a few nanoseconds. In the 21st century, this confidential technique, which requires great skill and equipment, has almost disappeared because of the final monochromatic color of the holograms, which does not appeal to the public. In this study, we show that ultra-realistic, full-color, and full-parallax snapshot holographic portraits can be recorded using a limited number of synchronized HD cameras. Experiments were successfully conducted using the digital CHIMERA holographic stereogram printing technique combined with image interpolation using a neural network. This new recording method allows holographic portraits to be developed and disseminated to the public on a larger scale.

Several studies have explored the use of hologram technology in architecture and urban design, demonstrating its feasibility. Holograms can represent 3D spatial data and offer an immersive experience, potentially replacing traditional methods such as physical 3D and offering a promising alternative to mixed-reality display technologies. Holograms can visualize realistic scenes such as buildings, cityscapes, and landscapes using the novel view synthesis technique. This study examines the suitability of spatial data collected through the Gaussian splatting method for tabletop hologram visualization. Recent advancements in Gaussian splatting algorithms allow for real-time spatial data collection of a higher quality compared to photogrammetry and neural radiance fields. Both hologram visualization and Gaussian splatting share similarities in that they recreate 3D scenes without the need for mesh reconstruction. In this research, unmanned aerial vehicle-acquired primary image data were processed for 3D reconstruction using Gaussian splatting techniques and subsequently visualized through holographic displays. Two experimental environments were used, namely, a building and a university campus. As a result, 3D Gaussian data have proven to be an ideal spatial data source for hologram visualization, offering new possibilities for real-time motion holograms of real environments and digital twins.

Pepper's ghost optical illusion, used in amusement parks, theaters, movies, museums, and other venues since 1862, is produced by reflected light and is often wrongly described as holographic. This paper presents an alternative illusion technique based on the use of full-color analog Denisyuk holograms mixed with real elements with the help of special lighting. The result is a stunning applied-science experiment that arouses the curiosity of even the most discerning observer, first by combining the real-world and holography on a level never before achieved, and then by creating an unexpected final effect of disappearance.
