Background: Between food and medicine, nutraceuticals are widely used in human health for the prevention and treatment of various diseases. This study aims to determine the cytoprotective effects of Anethum gravelons fruit extract (AGFAE) on castor oil‐induced diarrhea in rats due to its phytochemical and antioxidant properties. Methods: Male rats were divided into six groups of six animals each: Control (C), Castor oil (CO), CO + different doses of AGFAE (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg, b.w., p.o.), and the CO + loperamide group (LOP, 10 mg/kg, b.w., p.o.).Key Results: In vitro, the chemical composition of aqueous Dill fruit extract showed strong antioxidant activity, with a high content of total polyphenols, flavonoids, and tannins. In our in vivo studies, pre‐treatment with AGFAE reduced malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide levels and maintained normal activity of enzymatic and non‐enzymatic antioxidants in the gastric and intestinal mucosa. In addition, we found that AGFAE prophylaxis improved the stability of many plasma biochemical parameters altered by castor oil intoxication, such as C‐reactive protein concentrations and alkaline phosphatase activities. Conclusions & Inferences: We suggest that AGFAE phenolic compounds had significant protection against diarrhea involving several mechanisms such as reducing hypersecretion, peristaltic, inflammation, and preserving the endogenous antioxidant levels.

Nutritherapy is the art of using nutrients as a means of preventing or correcting dysfunction in the body. We aimed to evaluate the protective effect of dill fruit aqueous extract (DFAE) against acetic acid‐induced ulcerative colitis. Healthy male rats (N = 42) were divided into seven groups of six animals each, with groups 1 and 2 being controls, groups 3, 4, and 5 given increasing doses of DFAE (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg, b.w., p.o.), and groups 6 and 7 were given sulfasalazine (100 mg/kg, b.w., p.o.) and gallic acid (50 mg/kg, b.w., p.o.), respectively, during 10 days. In vitro, we found that DFAE's IC50 exhibited a significant antioxidant capacity due to its high phenolic content. The in vivo studies showed that the pre‐treatment with DFAE significantly reduced AA‐induced morphological and histopathological alterations of the colonic mucosa. The antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory power of DFAE maintained the redox equilibrium and preserved the intracellular mediators' homeostasis. Our data may suggest that dill fruit is a promising candidate for treating ulcerative colitis by controlling oxidative stress and inflammation.

The consumption of whole wheat has increased due to its nutritional benefits, particularly its richness in phenolic compounds. This study evaluated the influence of the farming systems (organic and conventional) and the diversity of thirteen Tunisian durum wheat varieties (landraces and modern genotypes) on the phenolic profile and antioxidant capacity. UHPLC–MS n analysis allowed the identification of eight phenolic acids, mainly in bound form, while p‐coumaric acid was the only compound detected in its free form. The results showed a highly significant effect of both the farming system and the variety on the bound and total fractions of all identified acids, on the total phenolic content and on the total antioxidant capacity, highlighting a combined genetic and environmental influence on their accumulation. On average, antioxidant capacity measured using the FRAP assay reached 2.70 mmol Fe/100 g under conventional farming and 2.90 mmol Fe/100 g under organic farming, indicating a slight increase in the organic system. The varieties Jenah Khotifa and Chili exhibited the highest values, reaching 3.65 mmol Fe/100 g and 3.38 mmol Fe/100 g, respectively, in the organic system, and 3.04 mmol Fe/100 g for Chili in the conventional system. Genotype and farming system influence phenolic profile. Organic farming enhanced the accumulation of bioactive compounds and increased antioxidant capacity, particularly in landraces Chili, Biskri, and Jenah Khotifa, compared to modern varieties. These findings highlight the value of traditional genotypes and organic farming in improving the functional quality of Tunisian durum wheat, while preserving local cereal biodiversity and enhancing nutritional quality.

This study aims to identify the most suitable and stable durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) varieties for organic farming. Thirteen varieties (four traditional and nine improved) were evaluated over three consecutive years (2022–2024) in two contrasting environments (Beja, sub-humid, and Bousselem, semi-arid) under two cropping systems (organic and conventional). Grain yield stability was assessed using complementary stability indices to evaluate genotype performance, adaptation, and yield stability across environments. The varieties "Dhahbi", "Khiar", "Biskri", "INRAT100", "Maali", and "Monastir" showed good yield potential under organic conditions, reaching between 2,600 and 2,900 kg ha⁻¹. However, only "INRAT100" and "Monastir" stood out for their remarkable stability, with a bᵢ close to 1, low variability (CV of 17.48 and 2.31%), and low ecovalence values according to Wricke and Shukla. These results were confirmed by the Plaisted and Peterson, Lin and Binns, and GAI indices, highlighting the complementarity of these stability indices for identifying high-performing and stable genotypes. Therefore, "INRAT100" and "Monastir" appear to be the most promising, best-adapted, and most stable genotypes for organic durum wheat cultivation, providing valuable candidates for cultivar recommendation and supporting sustainable durum wheat production in Tunisia.
