Corn is one of the global staple grains and the largest grain crop in China. During harvesting, grain separation, and corn production, corn is susceptible to mechanical damage including surface cracks, internal cracks, and breakage. However, the internal cracks are difficult to observe. In this study, hyperspectral imaging was used to detect mechanical damage in corn seeds. The corn seeds were divided into four categories that included intact, broken, internally cracked, and surface-crackedtv. This study compared three feature extraction methods, including principal component analysis (PCA), kernel PCA (KPCA), and factor analysis (FA), as well as a joint feature extraction method consisting of a combination of these methods. The dimensionality reduction results of the three methods (FA + KPCA, KPCA + FA, and PCA + FA) were combined to form a new combined dataset and improve the classification. We then compared the effects of six classification models (ResNet, ShuffleNet-V2, MobileNet-V3, ResNeSt, EfficientNet-V2, and MobileNet-V4) and proposed a ResNeSt_E network based on the ResNeSt and efficient multi-scale attention modules. The accuracy of ResNeSt_E reached 99.0%, and this was 0.4% higher than that of EfficientNet-V2 and 0.7% higher than that of ResNeSt. Additionally, the number of parameters and memory requirements were reduced and the frames per second were improved. We compared two dimensionality reduction methods: KPCA + FA and PCA + FA. The classification accuracies of the two methods were the same; however, PCA + FA was much more efficient than KPCA + FA and was more suitable for practical detection. The ResNeSt_E network could detect both internal and surface cracks in corn seeds, making it suitable for mobile terminal applications. The results demonstrated that detecting mechanical damage in corn seeds using hyperspectral images was possible. This study provides a reference for mechanical damage detection methods for corn.

As the precise odor-sensing equipment, the electronic nose integrates multiple advanced and sensitive sensors that can identify wound infections non-invasively and rapidly by analyzing wound characteristic odor. To reduce the cost of sensors and improve or maintain e-nose’s performance, efficient optimization of sensor arrays is required. For this issue, we proposed a new sensor array optimization algorithm named Interfered Feature Elimination coupled with Feature Group Selection (IFE-FGS). In this method, the IFE algorithm first removed the bad sensor features; then the FGS algorithm determined the optimized sensor combination by gradually selecting the features in groups. The experimental results show the superiority of the IFE- FGS method on two bacteria datasets and six public gene expression profiling datasets. IFE- FGS achieves the classification accuracy of 93.95% and 94.94% in mean accuracy and max accuracy, respectively, on the bacteria dataset 2, which is significantly ahead of the comparison methods. Besides, our proposed method shows consistency and effectiveness. It achieves excellent performance, which takes two first-places, four second-places in mean accuracy, one first-place, and six second-places in max accuracy. Moreover, it also explores three novel and valuable discoveries for the electronic nose: 1) It can effectively identify biomarkers in the application. 2) It can effectively distinguish the degree of chemical components contributing to odors. 3) It can reveal the effective detection range of the targets.

The purpose of few-shot relation extraction (RE) is to recognize the relationship between specific entity pairs in text when there are a limited number of labeled samples. A few-shot RE method based on a prototype network, which constructs relation prototypes by relying on the support set to assign labels to query samples, inherently leverages the symmetry between support and query processing. Although these methods have achieved remarkable results, they still face challenges such as the misjudging of noisy samples or outliers, as well as distinguishing semantic similarity relations. To address the aforementioned challenges, we propose a novel semantic enhanced prototype network, which can integrate the semantic information of relations more effectively to promote more expressive representations of instances and relation prototypes, so as to improve the performance of the few-shot RE. Firstly, we design a prompt encoder to uniformly process different prompt templates for instance and relation information, and then utilize the powerful semantic understanding and generation capabilities of large language models (LLMs) to obtain precise semantic representations of instances, their prototypes, and conceptual prototypes. Secondly, graph attention learning techniques are introduced to effectively extract specific-relation features between conceptual prototypes and isomorphic instances while maintaining structural symmetry. Meanwhile, a prototype-level contrastive learning strategy with bidirectional feature symmetry is proposed to predict query instances by integrating the interpretable features of conceptual prototypes and the intra-class shared features captured by instance prototypes. In addition, a clustering loss function was designed to guide the model to learn a discriminative metric space with improved relational symmetry, effectively improving the accuracy of the model’s relationship recognition. Finally, the experimental results on the FewRel1.0 and FewRel2.0 datasets show that the proposed approach delivers improved performance compared to existing advanced models in the task of few-shot RE.
