Biography

I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at Stanford University, specializing in bioengineering and cardiovascular biology. My research focuses on engineering biomimetic vascular tissues for clinical research and regenerative medicine. During my doctoral training, I developed multiscale vascular networks in engineered tissues, demonstrating that capillary-scale vessel formation can be guided using bioprinting techniques (Son et al., Small Methods, 2021). I also investigated pre-vascularization strategies to enhance graft integration, showing that implants incorporating spatially organized microvascular designs promote neovascularization and the formation of mature blood vessels (Son et al., Biofabrication, 2023). In my current postdoctoral research at Stanford, I am expanding on this work by developing arteriole-scale vessel arrays incorporating induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to investigate the mechanobiological and genomic mechanisms underlying pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). My expertise in integrating diverse vascular tissue engineering approaches—such as spatial vascular patterning and microfluidics—directly supports the goals of this proposed project. Ultimately, I hope my research will advance our understanding of mutation-specific mechanisms in PAH and lay the foundation for personalized vascular disease models through the development of a novel tissue platform.
