OBJECTIVE: This study compared the effects of dynamic and static core training programs on soccer related speed, agility. anaerobic power tests, core stability tests and body composition measurements. METHODS: A Static ([ ] 14) and Dynamic ([ ] 13) training groups performed three 30 min sessions per week for 8 weeks while attending scheduled soccer training sessions. RESULTS: Sprint (10–30 m), agility (505 and Arrowhead), vertical and standing long jump scores did not increase in any groups. Neither group demonstrated difference in body composition measurements for repeated test scores and between group comparisons. Experiment groups improved dynamic and static core stabilization test scores while Control group did not change. CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate that both training types improved movement related measures of core stability which did not transfer into any anaerobic skills and body composition. Thus core stability training is not generating sufficient stimulus to improve power and strength dependent performance skills such as sprint and agility and therefore may not constitute a cardinal component in soccer conditioning programs.

Urpose: Aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 8 weeks core training program on some physiological and physical parameters of handball team’s female players. Material and Methods: Volunteers were separated two groups as CTG (training group) and CG (control group). CTG was applied core strength training 30 min sessions 8 weeks and 3 days per week additionally handball trainings. CG wasn’t applied any core training. Effects of different core training regimes were compared after eight weeks with repeated measures MANOVA for the tests. Results: Neither group demonstrated difference for body composition measurements for repeated test scores and between groups comparisons. Significant difference was found BFP (body fat percentage) parameters on CTG. Sprint, agility, SLJ (standing long jump) scores did not increase in any groups and no difference was found between groups. Significance was found in VJ (vertical jump), back and leg strength, right and left hand grip strength, flexibility, balance parameters on CTG. Also significance was found in all core parameters on CTG. Conclusions: Results indicate that core trainings were very effective on performance based features especially on strength and core stability. So these exercises should be included in the training programs of female handball players.

This study compared the effects of dynamic and static core training programs on core stability tests and Stork balance performance in soccer players. A Static (n = 14, 18,21±1,81) and Dynamic (n = 13, 17,31±0,63) training groups performed three 30 min sessions per week for eight weeks meanwhile attended routine soccer training sessions with a control group (n = 11, 17,73±1,27). Effects of different core training regimes were compared after eight weeks with two-factor variance analysis (condition X time) for related measures. Two experiment groups improved dynamic and static core stabilization test scores, while control group did not change. Core stabilization tests showed that the improvements of experiment groups affected by the movement specifity and Static group increased static test scores (plank 23,8% - back isometric 28,9% - leg raise 15,6%) while Dynamic group increased mostly the dynamic test scores (sit-up 21,2%, push up 16,2%). For Stork balance, both experiment groups improved the test scores between %18 and %67. While the Static group increased the duration of Stork test on both feet more than the Dynamic group, this difference was statistically significant only for non-dominant foot in intergroup analysis. The static structure of the Stork test may explain the significant improvement in static core group. Results indicate that the positive effect of core training on core stability may improve balance and static core training may be more effective for static balance tests.Extended English abstract is in the end of PDF (TURKISH) file.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of periodized core training program on the serve velocity in male tennis players aged 11-13 years. 24 male nationally ranged (age 11.9±1.63, height 154.4±11.32, weight 43±8.76) participated to the study from a professional tennis club. Pre-post-training - control group design was applied and subjects were randomly assigned to Control Group and Training Group. Training Group participated to the core training program consisted of isometric and isotonic core stabilization exercises on stable and nonstable surfaces, three days in a week for 8 weeks in addition to tennis training sessions. Accurate service velocity, was assessed initially and at the end of the 8-week core program for both control and training groups. There was a significant improvement (6.6 %) in the serve velocity for the training group after the experiment, whereas there were no differences in the control group. Core stabilization training improved service velocity for young tennis players. It is recommended tennis coaches to apply periodized core stabilization exercises to young athletes and plan training programs in this way. Extended English abstract is in the end of PDF (TURKISH) file.

The aim of study was to investigate age-related agility, acceleration, speed and maximum speed relationships in soccer players. Study consisted of 125 young football players aged between 14 and 18 from Karabükspor youth and reserve team who were measured for 30m speed,10m acceleration, 20m maximum speed, and T-Agility tests. The test values of players decreased with age as expected. All performance tests correlated significantly but coefficients of determination (r2) between agility test and all other tests were low. Acceleration and other tests except 30m speed also were low. There were no differences in age groups in terms of correlation between tests. Because of low coefficients of determination, it could be said that maximal speed, acceleration, agility were correlated by chance and were different components of physical performance so different training sessions should be planned for each physical abilities.

Background and Objectives: Exercise results in oxidative enzyme increase and micro-injuries in skeletal muscles. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of maximal aerobic exercise on serum muscle enzymes in professional field hockey players. This study aims to determine the effect of increasing maximal aerobic exercise on creatine kinase (CK), creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) serum levels. Material and Methods: 31 young professional field hockey players (13 female and 18 male players) volunteered for this study. All participants underwent the shuttle run test. Blood samples were taken from each participant before the shuttle run test. Post test blood samples were taken immediately after exercise and one hour after respectively. Pre and post test CK, CK-MB, AST and ALT values were measured by means of auto analyzer using original kits. Results: The acute post test measure of the CK level increased in male (p=0.002) and female (p=0.00) sportsmen. CK-MB values obtained one hour after the exercise was lower than those before the exercise in males (p=0.02). In females (p=0.017) and males (p=0.05) AST activity significantly increased immediately after exercise and decreased to resting activity 1 h recovery. ALT significantly increased immediately after exercise in female (p=0.03) and male (p=0.00) athletes and after 1 h recovery ALT activities decreased below resting values. Conclusion: The timing and severity of exercise used in our study increased CK values, decreased CK-MB values and AST, ALT values increased in female and male field hockey players.
