In the past few decades, metaheuristic algorithms (MA) have been developed tremendously and have been successfully applied in many fields. In recent years, a large number of new MA have been proposed. Slime mould algorithm (SMA) is a novel swarm-based intelligence optimization algorithm. SMA solves the optimization problem by imitating the foraging and movement behavior of slime mould. It can effectively obtain a promising global optimal solution. However, it still suffers some shortcomings such as the unstable convergence speed, the imprecise search accuracy, and incapability of identifying a local optimal solution when faced with complicated optimization problems. With the purpose of overcoming the shortcomings of SMA, this paper proposed a multistrategy enhanced version of SMA called ESMA. The three enhanced strategies are chaotic initialization strategy (CIS), orthogonal learning strategy (OLS), and boundary reset strategy (BRS). The CIS is used to generate an initial population with diversity in the early stage of ESMA, which can increase the convergence speed of the algorithm and the quality of the final solution. Then, the OLS is used to discover the useful information of the best solutions and offer a potential search direction, which enhances the local search ability and raises the convergence rate. Finally, the BRS is used to correct individual positions, which ensures the population diversity and enhances the overall search capabilities of ESMA. The performance of ESMA was validated on the 30 IEEE CEC2014 functions and three IIR model identification problems, compared with other nine well-regarded and state-of-the-art algorithms. Simulation results and analysis prove that the ESMA has a superior performance. The three strategies involved in ESMA have significantly improved the performance of the basic SMA.

The whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is a popular swarm intelligence algorithm which simulates the hunting behavior of humpback whales. WOA has the deficiency of easily falling into the local optimal solutions. In order to overcome the weakness of the WOA, a modified variant of WOA called OCDWOA is proposed. There are four main operators introduced into the OCDWOA to enhance the search performance of WOA. The operators include opposition-based learning method, nonlinear parameter design, density peak clustering strategy, and differential evolution. The proposed algorithm is tested on 19 optimization benchmark functions and a seismic inversion problem. OCDWOA is compared with the classical WOA and three typical variants of WOA. The results demonstrate that OCDWOA outperforms the compared algorithms in terms of obtaining the global optimal solution.

Classification prediction technology, which utilizes labeled data for training to enable autonomous decision, has emerged as a pivotal tool across numerous fields. The Elman neural network (ENN) exhibits potential in tackling nonlinear problems. However, its computational process faces inherent limitations in escaping local optimum and experiencing a slow convergence rate. To improve these shortcomings, an ENN classifier based on Hyperactivity Rat Swarm Optimizer (HRSO), named HRSO-ENNC, is proposed in this paper. Initially, HRSO is divided into two phases, search and mutation, by means of a nonlinear adaptive parameter. Subsequently, five search actions are introduced to enhance the global exploratory and local exploitative capabilities of HRSO. Furthermore, a stochastic roaming strategy is employed, which significantly improves the ability to jump out of local positions. Ultimately, the integration of HRSO and ENN enables the substitution of the original gradient descent method, thereby optimizing the neural connection weights and thresholds. The experiment results demonstrate that the accuracy and stability of HRSO-ENNC have been effectively verified through comparisons with other algorithm classifiers on benchmark functions, classification datasets and an AlSi10Mg process classification problem.

Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is a prevalent technology in additive manufacturing, primarily due to its high design freedom and quality. However, ascertaining the optimal process window remains challenging due to the complex nonlinear relationships among process parameters and the significant resource cost associated with traditional experimental methods. This paper is devoted to addressing aforementioned challenges by integrating numerical simulation with swarm intelligence algorithms. Specifically, a novel swarm intelligence optimizer based on the original Crow Search Algorithm (CSA), named Modified Crow Search Algorithm (MCSA), is proposed in this research. In an effort to overcome the tendency of CSA to easily converge towards local optima, MCSA incorporates four main improvements. The nonlinear perturbation factor and the stochastically adjusted sine-cosine mechanism are employed to strengthen the capability in both local and global search. A random opposition-based learning strategy is utilized to escape local optima. Then, two adaptive parameters are adopted to balance the weights between search methods. The effectiveness of MCSA in search accuracy and convergence speed is rigorously evaluated through testing on twenty-three benchmark functions. Finally, numerical simulation is employed to capture dynamic melt pool behavior, enabling the establishment of keyhole and no-continuity models. The performance of MCSA is further investigated for the Ti6Al4V single-track formation optimization problem in SLM. Experimental results demonstrate that MCSA effectively identifies the optimal process window.
