Professor Traian V. Chirila is the Chief Scientist of the Queensland Eye Institute in Brisbane, Australia, and holds appointments at three Australian universities. He has established the first laboratory in Australia for research in ophthalmic biomaterials. He is a recognized expert in polymeric materials and biomaterials, and the inventor of the artificial cornea AlphaCor™ and ocular socket implant AlphaSphere™. He has published over 200 papers and book chapters, and has edited three books. Professor Chirila is a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
