A novel dual broadband rectangular slot antenna for 2.4 and 5 GHz wireless local area network (WLAN) is proposed. With the use of a U-shaped strip inset at the centre of the rectangular slot antenna, the obtained impedance bandwidths for two operating bands can reach about 10.6% for the 2.4 GHz band and 33.8% for the 5 GHz band, which cover the required bandwidths of IEEE 802.11b/g (2.4–2.484 GHz) and IEEE 802.11a (5.150–5.950 GHz). Details of the antenna design and experimental results are presented and discussed.

The ocean resources have been rapidly depleted in the recent decade, and the complementary role of aquaculture to food security has become more critical than ever before. Water quality is one of the key factors in determining the success of aquaculture and real-time water quality monitoring is an important process for aquaculture. This paper proposes a low-cost and easy-to-build artificial intelligence (AI) buoy system that autonomously measures the related water quality data and instantly forwards them via wireless channels to the shore server. Furthermore, the data provide aquaculture staff with real-time water quality information and also assists server-side AI programs in implementing machine learning techniques to further provide short-term water quality predictions. In particular, we aim to provide a low-cost design by combining simple electronic devices and server-side AI programs for the proposed buoy system to measure water velocity. As a result, the cost for the practical implementation is approximately USD 2015 only to facilitate the proposed AI buoy system to measure the real-time data of dissolved oxygen, salinity, water temperature, and velocity. In addition, the AI buoy system also offers short-term estimations of water temperature and velocity, with mean square errors of 0.021 °C and 0.92 cm/s, respectively. Furthermore, we replaced the use of expensive current meters with a flow sensor tube of only USD 100 to measure water velocity.

The article presents the results of modeling various modes of vacuum infusion molding of thin-walled polymer-composite structures of arbitrary geometry. The small thickness of the manufactured structures and the fixation of their back surface on the rigid surface of the mold made it possible to significantly simplify the process model, which takes into account the propagation of a thermosetting resin with changing rheology in a compressible porous preform of complex 3D geometry, as well as changes in boundary conditions at the injection and vacuum ports during the post-infusion molding stage. In the four modes of vacuum-infusion molding studied at the post-infusion stage, the start time, duration and magnitude of additional pressure on the open surface of the preform and in its vacuum port, as well as the state of the injection gates, were controlled (open–closed). The target parameters of the processes were the magnitude and uniformity of the distribution of the fiber volume fraction, wall thickness, filling of the preform with resin and the duration of the process. A comparative analysis of the results obtained made it possible to identify the most promising process modes and determine ways to eliminate undesirable situations that worsen the quality of manufactured composite structures. The abilities of the developed simulation tool, demonstrated by its application to the molding process of a thin-walled aircraft structure, allow one to reasonably select a process control strategy to obtain the best achievable quality objectives.
