Roel Merckx attained his Ph.D. in Agriculture at KU Leuven in 1983. Then, in October 1986, he joined the KU Leuven faculty team as a Professor. Roel has a vast experience in research in soil chemistry/biology, and soil fertility in the development context, mainly in Sub-Saharan Africa; managing research group/department in these and related areas.
