Medical image segmentation, driven by the intrinsic fractal characteristics of biological patterns, plays a crucial role in medical image analysis. Recently, universal image segmentation, which aims to build models that generalize robustly to unseen anatomical structures and imaging modalities, has emerged as a promising research direction. To achieve this, previous solutions typically follow the in-context learning (ICL) framework, leveraging segmentation priors from a few labeled in-context references to improve prediction performance on out-of-distribution samples. However, these ICL-based methods often overlook the quality of the in-context set and struggle with capturing intricate anatomical details, thus limiting their segmentation accuracy. To address these issues, we propose VG-SAM, which employs a multi-scale in-context retrieval phase and a visual in-context guided segmentation phase. Specifically, inspired by the hierarchical and self-similar properties in fractal structures, we introduce a multi-level feature similarity strategy to select in-context samples that closely match the query image, thereby ensuring the quality of the in-context samples. In the segmentation phase, we propose to generate multi-granularity visual prompts based on the high-quality priors from the selected in-context set. Following this, these visual prompts, along with the semantic guidance signal derived from the in-context set, are seamlessly integrated into an adaptive fusion module, which effectively guides the Segment Anything Model (SAM) with powerful segmentation capabilities to achieve accurate predictions on out-of-distribution query images. Extensive experiments across multiple datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of our VG-SAM over the state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods. Notably, under the challenging one-shot reference setting, our VG-SAM surpasses SOTA methods by an average of 6.61% in DSC across all datasets.

Hard negative generation aims to generate informative negative samples that help to determine the decision boundaries and thus facilitate advancing deep metric learning. Current works select pair/triplet samples, learn their correlations, and fuse them to generate hard negatives. However, these works merely consider the local correlations of selected samples, ignoring global sample correlations that would provide more significant information to generate more informative negatives. In this work, we propose a Globally Correlation-Aware Hard Negative Generation (GCA-HNG) framework, which first learns sample correlations from a global perspective and exploits these correlations to guide generating hardness-adaptive and diverse negatives. Specifically, this approach begins by constructing a structured graph to model sample correlations, where each node represents a specific sample and each edge represents the correlations between corresponding samples. Then, we introduce an iterative graph message propagation to propagate the messages of node and edge through the whole graph and thus learn the sample correlations globally. Finally, with the guidance of the learned global correlations, we propose a channel-adaptive manner to combine an anchor and multiple negatives for HNG. Compared to current methods, GCA-HNG allows perceiving sample correlations with numerous negatives from a global and comprehensive perspective and generates the negatives with better hardness and diversity. Extensive experiment results demonstrate that the proposed GCA-HNG is superior to related methods on four image retrieval benchmark datasets. Codes and trained models are available at \url{https://github.com/PWenJay/GCA-HNG}.

Existing handwritten text generation methods primarily focus on isolated words. However, realistic handwritten text demands attention not only to individual words but also to the relationships between them, such as vertical alignment and horizontal spacing. Therefore, generating entire text lines emerges as a more promising and comprehensive task. However, this task poses significant challenges, including the accurate modeling of complex style patterns encompassing both intra- and inter-word relationships, and maintaining content accuracy across numerous characters. To address these challenges, we propose DiffBrush, a novel diffusion-based model for handwritten text-line generation. Unlike existing methods, DiffBrush excels in both style imitation and content accuracy through two key strategies: (1) content-decoupled style learning, which disentangles style from content to better capture intra-word and inter-word style patterns by using column- and row-wise masking; and (2) multi-scale content learning, which employs line and word discriminators to ensure global coherence and local accuracy of textual content. Extensive experiments show that DiffBrush excels in generating high-quality text lines, particularly in style reproduction and content preservation.
