Álvaro Somoza obtained his Ph.D. at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, working on the total synthesis of natural products. He has completed two Postdoctoral stays, one at Standford University and another at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine Barcelona, working on the preparation of modified ribonucleosides and their effect on RNA interference. In 2009, he joined IMDEA Nanociencia and, in 2014, was promoted to Research Professor. His research projects are focused on the use of modified olinoglucleotides and nanostructures in diverse applications such as the detection and treatment of different diseases, including uveal melanoma, pancreatic cancer, and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
