Nowadays industrial robots are an appropriate technology for developing flexible and reconfigurable manufacturing systems which contribute to perform automatically operation such as milling, cutting, drilling, grinding, deburring and polishing. Machining robots symbolize a cost-saving and flexible alternative compared to conventional CNC machines which are the restricted working area and produced shape limitations. The improvement of individual elements and development of new devices has caused a perception change about the use of industrial robots to perform machining operations. The approach to this research was to analyze technical barriers of individual components that it was broken-down as well as full improving the system. This document is intended to provide technical constraints, current technology and future potential researches about robotic machining
Laminated parts made of FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) are becoming increasingly popular in last years. This increment can be explained due to their potential in field of manufacturing in order to allow us to make any kind of geometry, but in another way, these parts have not enough values of stiffness and strength to get an approach to a final constructive part. However, advantages of nowadays FEM programs allow us to analyze behavior and main manufacturing properties; in order get previously mentioned structural parts. Then it we must need to accurately predict the response of composite structures to different load cases. In this way, the adequate modeling tools must be developed. The motivation of this article is to contribute to this development, making numerical simulations of two different composite structures with a ply-level approach, and analyze obtained results
This work presents simplified models for strain and temperature measurement during orthogonal cutting process applying Ernst-Merchant theory and considering a 2-D steady state heat conduction problem. In order to validate the thermal model experiments with high speed imaging and with Infrared imaging were performed. The results of the infrared thermal measurements were compared with the outputs of the temperature model, considering the average temperature on the shear plane and temperature distribution. Also video analysis technique was developed to obtain shear strain in a precise way compared with Ernst-Merchant classical analysis. Experiments were conducted in a specially adapted milling machine for different low cutting velocities and feedrates.
