The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of genistein administration on the modulation of the estrogen receptor, inhibition of inflammation and angiogenesis in the murine model of peritoneal endometriosis. A total of thirty-six mice (Mus musculus) were divided into six groups (n = 6), including the control group, endometriosis group, endometriosis group treated with various doses of genistein (0.78; 1.04; 1.3 mg/day), and endometriosis group treated with leuprolide acetate (0.00975 mg/day every 5 days for 15 days). Analysis of estrogen receptor-α, estrogen receptor-β, TNF-α, IL-6, VEGF, and HIF-1α were performed immunohistochemically. Expression of estrogen receptor-α, estrogen receptor-β, TNF-α, IL-6, VEGF and HIF-1α increased significantly compared with the control group (p < 0.05). All doses of genistein decreased the expression of estrogen receptor-α, increased estrogen receptor-β, lowered VEGF and HIF-1α significantly compared with endometriosis group (p > 0.05). Genistein also decreased the expression of TNF-α and IL-6 (1.04 and 1.3 mg/day) compared with the endometriosis group, reaching level comparable to that of the control group (p > 0.05). It was concluded that genistein is able to modulate estrogen receptor-α and estrogen receptor-β and inhibit the development of inflammation and angiogenesis in the murine model of peritoneal endometriosis. Thus, genistein can be a candidate in the treatment of endometriosis.
Objective: To investigate whether combination of vitamin C and E able to inhibit decreasing angiogenesis, endometrial thickness, and α-estrogen receptor level in female rats receiving orally MSG-treatment. Methods: Twenty five female Wistar rats were divided into five group, control group, MSG [140 mg/200 gram body weight (bw)] group non treated and treated with combined vitamin C (0.2; 0.4; or 0.8 mg/g bw) and E (0.04 IU/g bw). Analysis of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) level were done by immunohistochemistry technique. Analysis of the number of arteriole and thickness of endometrium was done histopathologically with hematoxylin eosin staining. Analysis of uterus α-estrogen receptor was done using flowcytometer. Results: The expression of VEGF, number of arteriole, thickness of endometrium, and α-estrogen receptor were significantly lower in MSG-treatment group compared to control group (P < 0.05). Second and third dose of combined vitamin C and E significantly increased VEGF level and number of arteriole compared to MSG-treatment group (P < 0.05), to reach similar level in control group (P > 0.05). Administration of vitamin C and E significanlty increased the thickness of endometrium, and expression of α-estrogen receptor compared to MSG-treatment group (P < 0.05), reaching the number in the control group (P > 0.05). Conclusions: The present data suggesting that combined vitamin C and E able to inhibit endometrial toxicity caused by orally MSG treatment via modulating angiogenesis, increase endometrial thickness and expression of α-estrogen receptor

Objective: To evaluate the oral hygiene and dental caries status on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) patients, also it’s with SLE disease activity. Material and Methods: This is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted on 93 SLE patients from 2017 to 2019 on Saiful Anwar Hospital Indonesia. All SLE patients had clinical examination using DMF-T, Personal Hygiene Performance-Modified (PHP-M), Calculus Index (CI), Debris Index (DI), Plaque Index (PI) and Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S). Clinical examination and laboratory tests are conducted to assess the activity of SLE measured using. The data were analyzed by One Way ANOVA test. Results: A total of 74% of subjects with SLE had dental caries. PHP-M with SLE severity was found significant (p<0.001) and a strong positive correlation (r=0.982). Plaque with SLE severity was found significant (p=0.001) and a strong positive correlation (r=0.938). OHI-S with SLE severity was found significant (p<0.001) and a strong positive correlation (r=0.953). DMF-T levels with SLE severity was found significant (p=0.001) and a strong positive correlation (r=0.974). It showed that the severity of disease activity was related to poor oral hygiene and a high incidence of dental caries. Conclusion: There is a correlation between oral hygiene, dental caries and SLE severity.

This study aimed to investigate whether combined supplementation with vitamin C and vitamin E was able to modify the superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in the ovarium of rats exposed to rhodamine B. Twenty-five female Wistar albino rats were divided into five groups (n=5 each), including control (untreated group); rhodamine B group; rhodamine B group which received vitamin C (0.2 mg)+vitamin E (0.04 IU/g body weight); rhodamine B group which received vitamin C (0.4 mg)+vitamin E (0.04 IU/g body weight); and the rhodamine B group which received vitamin C (0.8 mg)+vitamin E (0.04 IU/g body weight). Analysis of MDA levels as a marker of lipid peroxidation was done spectrophotometrically. Analysis of SOD levels was done by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technically. Endometrial histology was analyzed in hematoxylin eosin staining. This increase in ovarian MDA was significantly (p0.05). All doses also significantly prevented rhodamine B-induced decrease in the vascular number and gland density. In conclusion, the protective effect of combined vitamin C and vitamin E against ovarian and endometrial toxicity in rats receiving oral rhodamine B is due to inhibition of the lipid peroxidation, modulation of SOD levels, and the endometrium repairing effect
