Professor Paweł Ligęza, Ph.D., D.Sci., born in 1959 in Krakow, Poland, is Head of the Laboratory of Flow Metrology in the Strata Mechanics Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Cracow. He graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, IT and Electronics of the AGH University of Science and Technology (1983) with an M. Eng. degree. A Ph.D. was conferred to him in the SMRI of PAS (1993) and D.Sc. in the AGH University of Science and Technology (2002). He obtained the title of Professor of Technical Sciences in 2011. Paweł Ligęza’s research interests include metrology, electronics, mechanics, mechatronics, computer sciences, mining sciences, modelling, and control, especially measurement systems design with application to flow metrology. He is an expert in hot-wire anemometry. He has published over 200 scientific papers domestically and internationally, 20 patents, and 5 monographs. He was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit by the President of the Republic of Poland and received the Research Award of the VII Department PAS Scientific Secretary twice. He is interested in cognitive science, and his main hobby is amateur radio (SP9IIG).
