Tuanjie Zhao, a professor and doctoral supervisor, is mainly engaged in the teaching of and research on crop genetics and breeding and biostatistics, focusing on the exploration of excellent gene resources and the molecular breeding of soybean. Eight new soybean varieties have been developed, and more than 2000 excellent soybean germplasm and genetic materials have been created in order to explore a number of important genes/QTLs controlling soybean yields and related traits (plant type, male sterility), quality (protein, oil content, etc.), and stress tolerance (waterlogging tolerance, bacterial disease resistance, etc.). He has published more than 200 papers (more than 70 included in SCI), has participated in the compilation of four monographs and textbooks, and has been awarded four invention patents. He won one second prize in natural science and one second prize in scientific and technological progress in the colleges and universities from the Ministry of Education, as well as two third prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels.
