A novel calculation method of specific surface area of tetrahedral foam metal is established. The expressions of the two basic parameters of the foam metal with respect to porosity and pore size are derived by using the geometrical relationship of this model; consequently, the specific surface area of the metal foam is easily calculated. The theoretical calculation data are compared with the experimental results; it shows that the specific surface area of various porous metals, such as nickel foam and copper foam prepared by electrodeposition and aluminum foam produced by high-pressure infiltration casting, can be well calculated by the formula proposed in this paper. Compared with other similar equations, the calculation results of this method possess lower deviation and greater practicability.

Axial compression-compression fatigue experiments on open-cell copper foams with different pore size were investigated in this paper. The effects of the strain amplitude on the fatigue properties were studied and found that there is an exponential relationship between the fatigue life and strain amplitude. The experimental results indicate that a smaller pore size is related to a lower fatigue life. The microstructures of failed copper foam tested at low stress amplitude were observed by optical microscope and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), suggests that different pore size related to different fatigue behavior. The fatigue failure mechanism of the open-cell copper foams were compared by experimental research.

As essential load-bearing equipment to support the nacelle and blades, the tower is subjected to the whole wind turbine loading. This study proposes a new method of combining acoustic emission and normalized accumulation parameters to characterize wind turbine towers Q345 steel damage. First of all, tendency analysis of the acoustic emission signal parameter was conducted to determine damage degree during the damage stage. Secondly, we normalized the accumulation of amplitude and other parameters to compare the proportion of each accumulation parameter at different stages, while studying the spectra of common acoustic emission signals. Finally, comparing the differences and similarities of the normalized accumulation parameters between three different rates, we analyze the effect of rate on the normalized accumulation parameters. These results indicate that the normalized cumulative duration parameter is suitable for characterizing the yield damage occurrence, the normalized cumulative energy parameter is very sensitive to the fracture stage, the normalized cumulative energy parameter is least influenced by the loading rate, and the energy parameter is a sensitivity factor for normalized expression, which to realizes the stage of damage judgment.

The microstructure, low-cycle fatigue property, and fracture behavior of as-received and aluminized steel were investigated at room temperature, respectively. The results reveal that the aluminized layer is mainly composed of three layers: (I) the external Al2O3 layer, (II) the transition Fe-Al mesophase layer, and (III) the diffusion layer with AlFe and AlCrFe phase. The microhardness of as-received steel lower than that of aluminized steel until the distance from aluminized layer is greater than 150 μm. Compared to the original steel, the aluminized steel exhibits lower stress amplitude and fatigue life, which is correlated to the surface integrity. According to the Coffin-Manson relationship, the fatigue-ductility coefficients for as-received and aluminized steel is 4.347 and 3.528, respectively. Fractographic analysis reveals that the fatigue cracks tend to nucleate at the coating and propagate through the grain boundaries apace.
