Yumi Kim, PhD, is a Scientist I at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Her research focuses on developing and implementing precision-based, adaptive interventions to promote physical activity, psychosocial well-being, and long-term health among individuals with disabilities and chronic health conditions. Her work aims to enhance accessibility and participation in health-promoting programs for populations often excluded from traditional research and community settings. She has contributed to several federally and foundation-funded projects that leverage telehealth platforms to deliver evidence-based exercise and wellness programs to people with mobility limitations. Her research integrates innovative methodologies, including Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trials (SMART), adaptive intervention design, and discrete choice experiments, to optimize personalized and sustainable behavior change strategies. Her current efforts focus on understanding and promoting health behaviors among individuals with complex and heterogeneous needs, particularly wheelchair users and those with spinal cord injury (SCI).
