Dr Efstathios Margaritis is a Geospatial Analyst at the University of Southampton and former Lecturer at the University of Groningen. He holds a PhD in Urban Sound Planning (University of Sheffield), an MSc in Geoinformatics (NTUA) and a 5-year BSc in Urban and Regional Planning (University of Thessaly). His interdisciplinary research bridges GIS, soundscape studies and environmental justice with a growing focus on tranquillity mapping and the role of perceived restorativeness in urban design. He explores how urban morphology, green space features and acoustic environments influence wellbeing in cities.
He has published in journals such as Applied Geography, Ecological Indicators and Noise Mapping and contributed to the EU-funded SONORUS project. Dr Margaritis has taught extensively on GIS, spatial analysis and urban planning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the UK and the Netherlands. He serves on the editorial boards of Noise Mapping and the European Journal of Geography and is a Guest Editor for Land and Sustainability. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of AGI, AESOP Young Academics and the Marie Curie Alumni Association.
