In the current meso cutting technology industry, the demand for more advanced, accurate and cheaper devices capable of creating a wide range surfaces and geometries is rising. To fulfill this demand, an alternative single point cutting device with 6 degrees of freedom (6DOF) was developed. Its main advantage compared to milling has been the need for simpler cutting tools that require an easier development. To obtain accurate and precise geometries, the tool tip must be monitored to compensate its position and make the proper corrections on the computer numerical control (CNC). For this, a stereo vision system was carried out as a different approach to the modern available technologies in the industry. In this paper, the artificial intelligence technologies required for implementing such vision system are explored and discussed. The vision system was compared with commercial measurement software Dino Capture, and a dedicated metrological microscope system TESA V-200GL. Experimental analysis were carried out and results were measured in terms of accuracy. The proposed vision system yielded an error equal to ±3 µm in the measurement.

The fourth industrial revolution requires the process equipment to work together through the strategy of cyber-physical systems. This project aims to contribute to this revolution by presenting a tool and methodology for creating cyber-physical systems. A V-model was used for the design process, in which the digital twin of a 3PRS+XY+C machine tool was developed. It started by defining the requirements, the basis for creating the logical-functional structure. This structure was the guide for completing the behavioural models of each element, the cascade control, and the 3D design of the machine. The simulation was carried out with the digital twin ready to verify the correct operation. A position and speed test were performed with step start and a second order signal showing proper control and compliance with the setpoint. The tests performed show that the strategy used allowed the realisation of the digital twin that conforms to the cyber-physical system of the machine. Also, due to the design mode, the model is highly flexible, and its modular structure facilitates the changes. It is the right time to apply this strategy in the Ecuadorian industry and thus reduce the technological gap and increase international competitiveness.

This article presents the development of an autonomous navigation system for the intelligent sailboat Sensailor. This vehicle will be equipped with a Lidar and a camera for obstacle recognition. The recollected data will allow the sailboat to register the obstacle coordinates and determine the zones for safe navigation. Based on that, the intelligent system will apply AI algorithms for path planning, in order to get the shortest safe trajectory. This way, it will be guaranteed that the Sensailor can translate from an initial to a target position while optimizing time and resources.
