Biography

At present full Professor of Physical Chemistry at the UN (Universidad de Navarra), he received the degree in Chemistry and PhD in Physical Chemistry from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and joined the School of Sciences of the UN in 1997. Invited Senior Lecturer at King’s College London for a sabbatical (2013-2014), his research and teaching have gone in parallel with academic duties as Deputy Director of Studies and Vice-Dean of the School of Sciences of the UN (2005-2011), and as the Head of the Department of Chemistry of the UN (2015-2024). Supramolecular Chemistry (cyclodextrins and polymers for pharmaceutical, environmental and analytical applications), colloid science (self-assembly of amphiphilic polymers, as studied by neutron scattering and spectroscopic and thermodynamic methods, and humic substances) and materials science (polymeric nanocomposites, hydrogels and fiber-based functional materials for biomedical applications) are some of his topics of research, in collaboration with scientists from King's College London, Technical University of Munich, Institute Laue-Langevin, Jülich Centre for Neutron Science, Royal Institute of Technology, Uppsala University, Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Universidad de Salamanca, amongst other institutions. He is currently a member of the research groups SUMBET (Supramolecular Materials for Biomedical and Environmental Technologies) and BIOMA (Instituto de Biodiversidad y Medioambiente) of the UN.
