Prof. Dr. Álvaro Gutiérrez is a Full Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). He completed his BSc studies in Telecommunication Engineering at the UPM in 2004 and his PhD studies at the UPM in 2009. He is an expert in Artificial Intelligence for human-robot interaction, intelligent control, and robotics, with a focus on swarm intelligence, distributed AI, and embodied systems applied to bioengineering, robotics, and energy systems. He has 20 years of experience leading or contributing to over 50 R&D projects (25 as PI). He currently directs the Control and Robotics Lab at ETSIT-UPM (ROBOLABO) and is actively involved in several academic and innovation committees at the university. Author of 65 journal papers (30 in Q1), 65 conference papers, 5 book chapters, with 3,000+ citations, h-index of 24, and i10-index of 42. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a reviewer for over 10 international journals and a member of several academic and professional organizations, including the CEA. In the academic management domain, he has held various high-level positions, including Academic Secretary and elected board member roles at UPM. In technology transfer, he is a co-founder of three spin-off companies: RBZ Robot Design S.L., Click Museums S.L., and Urban Wisee S.L.
