Y 2 O 3 films were deposited on c-Si substrates at temperatures in the 400–550°C range, with no further thermal treatment given to these samples, using the spray pyrolysis technique. The spraying solution was yttrium acetilacetonate disolved N,N-dimethylformamide. In addition, a solution of H2O–NH4OH was sprayed in parallel during the deposition process to improve the optical, structural, and electrical properties of the deposited films. The growth of a SiO2 layer between the yttrium oxide and the Si substrate during this deposition process resulted in interface state density values as low as 1010eV−1cm−2. An effective refractive index value of 1.86, and deposition rates close to 1Å∕s were obtained. The Y2O3 films were polycrystalline with a crystalline cubic phase highly textured with the (400) direction normal to the Si surface. An effective dielectric constant up to 13, as well as a dielectric strength of the order of 0.2MV∕cm was obtained for ∼1000Å thick as-deposited films incorporated in a metal-oxide-semiconductor structure.
In this paper, the dynamic case of a system made up of two blocks connected by a string over a smooth pulley is revisited. One mass lies on a horizontal surface without friction, and the other mass has a vertical displacement. The motion equation is obtained and its solution is determined using the Mathematica package. Also an experimental montage for this system is made and experimental data for the vertical position y in the function of time t are obtained using a data acquisition system and Tracker video analysis. The relation y vs t can be represented by a polynomial of degree six. An average relative error of 3.61(10.14)% is obtained between the theoretical results acquired with Mathematica and the data taken from Tracker (data acquisition system).
This study investigates the influence of ChatGPT, an AI-based language model, on student performance in a physics course. We conducted an experimental analysis with two cohorts of students in a second-semester engineering physics course. The control group (Physics 2 2022B) used traditional teaching methods, while the experimental group (Physics 2 2023A) integrated ChatGPT as a learning tool. Our results indicate that the use of ChatGPT led to a significant decrease in student performance, as evidenced by lower grades and negative Hake factors compared to the control group. In addition, a survey of students revealed conflicting perceptions of the usefulness of ChatGPT in teaching physics. While most recognized its usefulness in understanding concepts and providing information, concerns were raised about its potential to reduce critical thinking and independent learning. These findings suggest that while ChatGPT can be a useful tool, it should be used with caution and as a supplement to traditional teaching methods, rather than as a stand-alone solution. The study underlines the importance of critical and reflective use of AI tools in educational settings and highlights the irreplaceable role of teachers in providing comprehensive educational support.
We studied the electronic band structure and corresponding local density of states of low-index fcc Ag surfaces (100), (110), and (111) by using the empirical tight-binding method in the framework of the Surface Green’s Function Matching formalism. The energy values for different surface and resonance states are reported and a comparison with the available experimental and theoretical data is also done.
