Dr. Leonie Jacobs is an Associate Professor in the School of Animal Sciences at Virginia Tech, specializing in poultry welfare. She earned her Ph.D. in Veterinary Science from Ghent University in Belgium, and holds dual Master's degrees in Animal Science from Wageningen University in the Netherlands and the Swedish Agricultural University in Sweden. Dr. Jacobs' research is dedicated to enhancing the welfare of production animals, with a particular focus on poultry. Her work aims to identify solutions that benefit both animals and industry stakeholders and providing production animals with a high-quality life, emphasizing the importance of positive experiences. In addition to her research, Dr. Jacobs is actively involved in extension work. She co-founded the Poultry Extension Collaborative, a partnership with faculty from other U.S. universities aimed at advancing the poultry industry through outreach.
