Information

Luca Cicala has academic and applied research background. His main interests are vision based sensor applications for telecommunications (image and video coding), remote sensing (classification, change detection, data fusion, object based image analysis, artificial intelligence for image understanding), geo-information services (web GIS architectures, big data processing) and video processing (video understanding, computer vision, multisensor data fusion). He has experience as scientist and author of technical publications, as system designer and as project manager of R&D projects. In particular, he has been coordinator of many large reseaarch and innovation project proposals, with high rate of success. At CIRA (the Italian Aerospace Research Center), he worked at the following aeronautical and spatial applications: 1) video source coding for man in the loop UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) applications; 2) sensor fusion among imaging and navigation sensor on UAS platforms; 3) automatic target detection and tracking systems for UAS; 4) sensor aided motion imagery coding for UAS; 5) navigation and imaging sensor simulators; 6) vision based navigation for small UAS; 7) remote sensing image analysis for environmental monitoring; 8) geo-information services based on remote sensed image processing and artificial intelligence.
