Objective: Analyze and demonstrate how the application of the Lean Manufacturing methodology can increase productivity in manufacturing companies by identifying key tools, reducing waste and optimizing resources. Theoretical Framework: Lean Manufacturing es una metodología derivada del Sistema de Producción Toyota (TPS) que busca maximizar el valor para el cliente mediante la eliminación de desperdicios y la mejora continua. Method: A systematic literature review was conducted in scientific databases, selecting relevant studies from the last five years. Lean Manufacturing was compared with other management methodologies, such as Six Sigma and TQM, and success stories from different industries were analyzed. Results and Discussion: The results show that Lean Manufacturing improves operational efficiency, reduces costs and optimizes processes by eliminating non-value-added activities. Key tools such as 5S, VSM, TPM and Kaizen were identified and have been successfully implemented in several companies to improve quality and productivity. Research Implications: The study offers a practical guide for the implementation of Lean Manufacturing in manufacturing industries, providing theoretical and empirical evidence of its benefits. It also contributes to academic knowledge by analyzing its impact on different sectors and its integration with emerging technologies. Originality/Value: This article highlights the applicability of lean manufacturing beyond the automotive sector, identifying its advantages and future prospects in Industry 4.0. The research provides a valuable framework for companies seeking to improve their efficiency through waste reduction and continuous improvement.

The growing pressure on industrial organizations to align digital transformation with sustainability objectives has intensified the need to systematically understand the role of emerging digital technologies in sustainable industrial development. The accelerated digitalization of industrial ecosystems has positioned the Internet of Things (IoT) as a critical enabler of corporate sustainability within Industry 4.0. However, evidence on how IoT contributes to environmental, social, and economic performance remains fragmented. This study conducts a systematic literature review following PRISMA 2020 guidelines to consolidate the scientific advances linking IoT with sustainable corporate management. The search covered 2009–2025 and included publications indexed in Scopus, EBSCO Essential, and MDPI, identifying 65 empirical and conceptual studies that met the inclusion criteria. Bibliometric analyses—such as keyword co-occurrence mapping and temporal heatmaps—were performed using VOSviewer v. 2023 to detect dominant research clusters and emerging thematic trajectories. Results reveal four domains in which IoT significantly influences sustainability: (1) resource-efficient operations enabled by real-time sensing and predictive analytics; (2) energy optimization and green digital transformation initiatives; (3) circular-economy practices supported by data-driven decision-making; and (4) the integration of IoT with Green Human Resource Management to strengthen environmentally responsible organizational cultures. Despite these advances, gaps persist related to Latin American contexts, theoretical integration, and longitudinal assessment. This study proposes a conceptual model illustrating how IoT-enabled technologies enhance corporate sustainability and offers strategic insights for aligning Industry 4.0 transformations with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDGs 7, 9, and 12.

This study examines how the Internet of Things (IoT) acts as a key enabler of sustainability in industrial production systems within the Industry 4.0 paradigm, addressing the fragmented understanding of the mechanisms linking digital technologies to environmental, operational, and emerging human-centric outcomes. A systematic literature review was conducted following PRISMA 2020 guidelines using the Web of Science Core Collection. After applying explicit inclusion and exclusion criteria, 69 peer-reviewed studies published between 2016 and 2026 were analyzed through qualitative thematic synthesis and comparative analysis. The findings reveal that IoT functions as a foundational digital infrastructure enabling real-time monitoring, operational transparency, and data-driven decision-making in production environments. Four dominant application domains are identified: (i) energy and resource efficiency, (ii) production monitoring and control, (iii) predictive maintenance and asset management, and (iv) emerging human-centric production systems aligned with Industry 5.0. While IoT consistently improves operational reliability and resource efficiency, its contribution to the social dimension of sustainability remains comparatively underdeveloped. This study advances the existing literature by providing a mechanism-oriented synthesis that explains how IoT-enabled infrastructures generate sustainability outcomes across production systems. Furthermore, it establishes a conceptual bridge between Industry 4.0 digitalization and the transition toward human-centric and resilient manufacturing models associated with Industry 5.0. From a practical perspective, the results highlight that IoT adoption contributes to reducing energy consumption, optimizing resource utilization, and enhancing operational performance, while also supporting safer and more adaptive working environments. However, challenges related to data integration, workforce adaptation, and digital capability gaps persist, underscoring the need for inclusive and strategically aligned digital transformation processes.
