Memristive Hopfield neural network (MHNN) has complex dynamic behavior, which is suitable for encryption applications. In order to ensure the information security of the medical data transmitted in Internet of Things (IoT), we propose three new MHNN models by using a non-ideal flux-controlled memristor model with multi-piecewise nonlinearity. In these models, there are complex dynamical behaviors such as coexisting attractors, multi-scroll attractors and grid multi-scroll attractors. In terms of hardware, the proposed model is implemented using field programmable gate array (FPGA). In addition, we provide a complete set of medical data sharing solution, which are helpful for the referral patients to receive timely medical treatment. The whole solution is successfully verified on Raspberry Pi, the encrypted Computed Tomography (CT) image is transmitted safely under Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol, and the CT image is subjected to basic security analysis. The results show that the ciphertext histogram is evenly distributed, the correlation between adjacent pixels is almost 0, the information entropy reaches 7.9977, and the values of number of pixels change rate (NPCR) and unified average change intensity (UACI) are 99.6078% and 33.4875%. The solution not only performs the exchange of medical data, but also protects the privacy of patients.

By integrating memristors into a Hopfield neural network (HNN), a diverse range of dynamical behavior can be generated, which has significant implications for modeling and biomimetic applications of artificial neurons. However, research on the firing dynamics of HNNs remains relatively limited. In response, a memristive tri-neurons HNN (MTN-HNN) was constructed, with the synapse of the second neuron replaced by the proposed memristor. A theoretical and experimental investigation of the dynamics of this neural network was conducted using general analytical tools, such as phase diagrams, Lyapunov exponents, bifurcation diagrams, and others. Experimental results indicate that the dynamics of the MTN-HNN is influenced by the internal parameters of the memristor, enabling the network to extend attractors in up to two directions and thereby form grid multiscrolls. Notably, the MTN-HNN exhibits various firing modes, including periodic and chaotic bursting. Finally, an encryption scheme was proposed to demonstrate the potential of the MTN-HNN, and both the custom digital circuits and the encryption scheme were successfully implemented on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA).

With the rapid development of communication technology and the popularization of network, information security has been highly valued by all walks of life. Random numbers are used in many cryptographic protocols, key management, identity authentication, image encryption, and so on. True random numbers (TRNs) have better randomness and unpredictability in encryption and key than pseudorandom numbers (PRNs). Chaos has good features of sensitive dependence on initial conditions, randomness, periodicity, and reproduction. These demands coincide with the rise of TRNs generating approaches in chaos field. This survey paper intends to provide a systematic review of true random number generators (TRNGs) based on chaos. Firstly, the two kinds of popular chaotic systems for generating TRNs based on chaos, including continuous time chaotic system and discrete time chaotic system are introduced. The main approaches and challenges are exposed to help researchers decide which are the ones that best suit their needs and goals. Then, existing methods are reviewed, highlighting their contributions and their significance in the field. We also devote a part of the paper to review TRNGs based on current-mode chaos for this problem. Finally, quantitative results are given for the described methods in which they were evaluated, following up with a discussion of the results. At last, we point out a set of promising future works and draw our own conclusions about the state of the art of TRNGs based on chaos.

Because of the nonlinearity and memory, memristors are the most suitable electrical component for simulating synapses. A novel local active and nonvolatile memristor is designed. By circuit experiments, its memristive properties are verified. By introducing this memristor, this brief constructs a 4D memristive Hopfield neural network (MHNN) which can perform complex dynamics, such as controllable double-scrolls attractors and controllable initial offset boosting coexistence. Compared with other multiscroll chaotic systems, the autonomy equation of the system is smooth for discarding the sign function. In addition, this MHNN performs well in image encryption applications for the significant complexity of multiscroll. Through safety analysis, the information entropy of the $512 \times 512$ Lena graph is 7.9993, which is very close to the ideal value of 8. Besides, the number of pixels changing rates (NPCR) and the unified averaged changed intensity (UACI) are 99.6097% and 33.4621%, which are almost equal ideal values. Finally, this brief designs the digital circuit of the multiscroll MHNN signal generator and verifies the function with the help of a field programmable gate array (FPGA) and oscilloscope. Besides, by designing a pseudo-random number generation circuit, FPGA can directly encrypt the image and transmit it to the input and output devices.

By introducing a flux‐controlled memristor with quadratic nonlinearity into a 4D hyperchaotic system as a feedback term, a novel 5D hyperchaotic four‐wing memristive system (HFWMS) is derived in this paper. The HFWMS with multiline equilibrium and three positive Lyapunov exponents presented very complex dynamic characteristics, such as the existence of chaos, hyperchaos, limit cycles, and periods. The dynamic characteristics of the HFWMS are analyzed by using equilibria, phase portraits, poincare map, Lyapunov exponential spectrum, bifurcation diagram, and spectral entropy. Of particular interest is that this novel system can generate two‐wing hyperchaotic attractor under appropriate parameters and initial conditions. Moreover, the FPGA realization of the novel 5D HFWMS is reported, which prove that the system has complex dynamic behavior. Finally, synchronization of the 5D hyperchaotic system with different structures by active control and a secure signal masking application of the HFWMS are implemented based on numerical simulations and FPGA. This research demonstrates that the hardware‐based design of the 5D HFWMS can be applied to various chaos‐based embedded system applications including random number generation, cryptography, and secure communication.
