Dr. Aguiar received his PhD in Physical Education from the Catholic University of Brasília (UCB), Brazil, in 2021, under the supervision of Prof. Herbert Gustavo Simões. He then held two postdoctoral fellowships from the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) at UCB, working on Akkermansia muciniphila and on peptide mimetics of monoclonal antibodies designed to block interleukin-11 receptor signaling in cardiac fibrosis. In 2026 he joined the Graduate Programs in Physical Education and in Genomic Sciences and Biotechnology at UCB as Professor, where he leads the Laboratory of Exercise, Aging and Biotechnology. His research examines how exercise modulates molecular pathways of aging, from the biology of lifelong training in master athletes to intervention trials of strength training combined with a cognitive task in institutionalized older adults. His current work focuses on the IL-11/IL-11RA/gp130 axis as a therapeutic target in aging, including sex differences in its biology. He has published more than 70 articles indexed in Scopus, with an h-index of 19.
