Sexual health education is an essential part of quality-oriented education for college students. It aims to help these students to acquire knowledge of sexual physiology, sexual psychology, and sexual social norms that is consistent with the maturity of the students. Along with college students’attitudes toward sex, their perceptions regarding sexual behavior have also undergone profound changes. The importance of safe sexual behavior, sexual taboos, and sexual autonomy are gaining increasing attention as Chinese society is becoming more open. For college students who have just reached adulthood and have full autonomy of themselves, however, are they really going to have sexual behavior without careful consideration? Or is it something they have planned to do in the first place? To answer the above questions, this study was conducted to understand the relationship between college students’ attitudes toward sex, subjective norms, and behavioral control of their sexual behavior intentions by applying the Theory of Planned Behavior. In this study, 460 valid questionnaires were collected from Chinese college students and analyzed with partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). This study analyzes the relationship of multiple factors, including those influencing college students’ sexual behavior intentions. Meanwhile, it also compares the differences in factors affecting sexual behavior intentions between college students with or without sexual experience and those of different genders. Based on the results of the study, it was found that, first, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control of college students had a significant effect on safe sexual behavior intentions, while attitudes did not have a significant effect on safe sexual behavior intentions. Second, the gender and sexual experience of college students had a significant effect on safe sexual behavior intentions. Third, non-sexually experienced college students were more likely to be influenced by external factors. Relevant future research suggestions will be proposed based on the results of this study. Finally, this study helps to provide substantive suggestions for enhancing safe sexual behavior among college students in the context of universal higher education, as well as strengthening the self-protection of college students and providing practical advice for the development of sex education in China.

In order to enable online learning to continue developing when the COVID-19 pandemic passes, this study aimed to identify the critical factors that affected the use of e-learning by university students during the pandemic. These critical factors will help to increase the efficiency of future development and deployment of online learning systems. Through a literature review, this study employed the technology acceptance model, social support, and task–technology fit as the theoretical basis to establish the framework of the online learning environment with regards to the technology acceptance model in the context of emergency management. A questionnaire survey was administered to students in universities that had implemented online teaching during the pandemic, and 552 valid responses were collected. The survey explored the factors affecting the willingness of higher education institution students to continue using online learning, and the following conclusions were drawn. (1) The easier an online learning platform was to navigate, the better it was perceived by the students, and thus the students were more willing to use it. (2) Ease of use and usefulness were associated with the teachers’ choice of platform and their ability to achieve a satisfactory fit between the course design and platform navigation, which thereby affected the students’ learning outcomes and attitude towards use. (3) The positive attitude of teachers towards teaching increased the students’ perceived ease of use of online learning. (4) During the pandemic, family support—a major support for teachers in online teaching—enhanced teachers’ attitudes towards, and willingness to provide, online teaching. A high level of support showed that the parents urged the students to learn and complete online learning tasks as instructed by the teachers, implying that family support could affect the students’ habits towards, adaptation to, and identification of online learning. The study results provide insights into the factors affecting the willingness of teachers and students to continue using e-learning platforms.

The prevalence of COVID-19 has changed traditional teaching modes. For many teachers, online learning effectively compensated for the absence of traditional face-to-face instruction. Online learning can support students and schools and can create unique opportunities under emergency management. Educational institutions in various countries have launched large-scale online course modes in response to the pandemic. Additionally, online learning during a pandemic differs from traditional online learning modes. Through surveying students in higher education institutions, educational reform under emergency management can be explored. Therefore, university students were surveyed to investigate their continuance intention regarding online learning during the pandemic. Expectation confirmation theory was extended using the task-technology fit model to ascertain whether the technical support of promoting online learning helped student’s complete course learning tasks during the pandemic and spawned a continuance intention to use online learning in the future. Data were collected through online questionnaires. A total of 854 valid responses were collected, and partial least squares structural equation modeling was employed to verify the research hypotheses. The results revealed that the overall research framework largely explained continuance intention. Concrete suggestions are proposed for higher education institutions to promote online learning modes and methods after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many educational institutions have adopted e-learning under COVID-19 pandemic to maintain school teaching activities. Most teachers were encouraged to use online instruction in early February 2020. Thus, whether online learning changes students’ learning habits and replaces traditional physical teaching methods, online learning has become a keen topic. Based on the push–pull–mooring model, we proposed a comprehensive research model and explored the impact of online learning during COVID-19 pandemic on students’ attitude and behavioral intention. We found that push effects (perceived security risk, learning convenience, and service quality), pull effects (usefulness, ease of use, teacher’s teaching attitude, task-technology fit), and mooring effects (switching cost, habit) had significantly influence the switching intentions of users from physical course to online learning platforms. The findings of this study will bring more insights into e-learning during an epidemic crisis.

To analyze how variability changes over time can enhance the understanding of how learners’ self-efficacy, motivation, and satisfaction is controlled and why differences might exist among groups of individuals. Therefore, this study compared the effect of variability on pre-service teacher students in the flipped classroom approach with a course named modern educational technology (MET). In total, 77 students in two groups participated in this study. Learners in the experimental group received the flipped classroom treatment. Learners in the control group received the traditional lecture-centered instructional approach. The learning outcomes were evaluated by practice assignment, transfer assignment, and student perception survey. The survey includes the evaluation of learning satisfaction, self-efficacy, and learning motivation. Pre-test and post-test were conducted by the two groups. The data analysis results applied analysis of variance (ANOVA) or analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) and revealed that the experimental group displayed a better learning achievement than the control group. The experimental group participants’ perception also showed variability (i.e., learning satisfaction, self-efficacy, and learning motivation) was better than the control group. Considering the overall study results, the flipped classroom model can be applied in the pre-service teacher students’ modern educational technology course.

Currently, many countries actively cultivate students to develop computational thinking ability. Many visual programming environments (VPEs) and physical robot courses have been integrated into computational thinking learning in the elementary education stage. This study explores the relationship between the programming learning environment (including VPE, physical robots, and no experience) and the computational thinking ability of higher-grade elementary school students of different genders. The results show that learning through VPE or physical robots can help students improve their computational thinking ability and that students learn better via physical robots. In addition, among the four dimensions of computational thinking ability, most students are weak in algorithm design. In terms of gender, no differences exist in computational thinking ability. Further analysis reveals that female students have better decomposition performance in VPE learning, while male students have better algorithm design performance.

Comfortable leisure and entertainment is expected through multimedia. Web multimedia systems provide diversified multimedia interactions, for example, sharing knowledge, experience and information, and establishing common watching habits. People use information technology (IT) systems to watch multimedia videos and to perform interactive functions. Moreover, IT systems enhance multimedia interactions between users. To explore user behaviors in viewing multimedia videos by key points in time, multimedia video watching patterns are analyzed by data mining techniques. Data mining methods were used to analyze users’ video watching patterns in converged IT environments. After the experiment, we recorded the processes of clicking the Web multimedia video player. The system logs of using the video player are classified into four variables, playing time, active playing time, played amount, and actively played amount. To explore the four variables, we apply the k-means clustering technique to organize the similar playing behavior patterns of the users into three categories: actively engaged users, watching engaged users, and long engaged users. Finally, we applied statistical analysis methods to compare the three categories of users’ watching behaviors. The results showed that there were significant differences among the three categories.

In this study, we designed a four-dimensional (4D) audiovisual entertainment system called Sense. This system comprises a scene recognition system and hardware modules that provide haptic sensations for users when they watch movies and animations at home. In the scene recognition system, we used Google Cloud Vision to detect common scene elements in a video, such as fire, explosions, wind, and rain, and further determine whether the scene depicts hot weather, rain, or snow. Additionally, for animated videos, we applied deep learning with a single shot multibox detector to detect whether the animated video contained scenes of fire-related objects. The hardware module was designed to provide six types of haptic sensations set as line-symmetry to provide a better user experience. After the system considers the results of object detection via the scene recognition system, the system generates corresponding haptic sensations. The system integrates deep learning, auditory signals, and haptic sensations to provide an enhanced viewing experience.

Deep learning for enhancing simulation IoTs groundwater flow is a good solution for gaining insights into the behavior of aquifer systems. In previous studies, corresponding results give a basis for the rational management of groundwater resources. The users generally require special skills or knowledge and massive observations in representing the field reality to perform the deep learning algorithms and simulations. To simplify the procedures for performing the numerical and large-scale groundwater flow simulations, we apply the deep learning algorithms which combine both the numerical groundwater model and large-scale IoTs, groundwater flow measuring equipment and various complex groundwater numerical models. The mechanism has the capability to show spatial distributions of in-situ data, analyze the spatial relationships of observed data, generate meshes, update users’ databases with in-situ observed data, and create professional reports. According to the numerical simulation results, we revealed that the deep learning algorithms are high computational efficiency, and we can enhance precise variance estimations for large-scale groundwater flow problems. The findings help users to best apply the deep learning algorithms in an easier way, get more accurate simulation results, and manage the groundwater resources rationally.

From traditional face-to-face courses, asynchronous distance learning, synchronous live learning, to even blended learning approaches, the learning approach can be more learner-centralized, enabling students to learn anytime and anywhere. In this study, we applied educational data mining to explore the learning behaviors in data generated by students in a blended learning course. The experimental data were collected from two classes of Python programming related courses for first-year students in a university in northern Taiwan. During the semester, high-risk learners could be predicted accurately by data generated from the blended educational environment. The f1-score of the random forest model was 0.83, which was higher than the f1-score of logistic regression and decision tree. The model built in this study could be extrapolated to other courses to predict students’ learning performance, where the F1-score was 0.77. Furthermore, we used machine learning and symmetry-based learning algorithms to explore learning behaviors. By using the hierarchical clustering heat map, this study could define the students’ learning patterns including the positive interactive group, stable learning group, positive teaching material group, and negative learning group. These groups also corresponded with the student conscious questionnaire. With the results of this research, teachers can use the mid-term forecasting system to find high-risk groups during the semester and remedy their learning behaviors in the future.

In the context of the Internet for education, informatized teaching has become the most basic and critical ability of teachers. The application of advanced information technology in education means that the improvement in teaching ability requires instructors to better utilize teaching and learning opportunities. Project-based learning is an inquiry-based learning method that embodies learning by doing. With respect to the training of informatization teaching for pre-service teachers, we choose three aspects: information-based instructional design, information-based teaching resource integration, and information-based teaching evaluation, respectively, from PowerPoint (PPT) skills, multimedia courseware production, and micro lectures. This study explores three experimental projects and undertakes detailed empirical growth research on the cultivation of pre-service teachers. We were able to enhance the informatization teaching design ability of pre-service teachers with the training of PPT skills. In this experiment, we found that integration of information-based teaching resources can be improved by the integration of multimedia courseware production. Information teaching evaluation can be improved through micro lecture production. The mechanism provides a more feasible and practical strategy for the training of pre-service teachers in their informatization teaching ability.

The emergence of networking has been viewed as a critical educational innovation. To highlight some innovations in educational networking (EN) research, this paper provides a bibliometric overview of international EN research from 2000 to 2018. Based on a keyword search, a total of 1005 journal articles with 13,803 citations were obtained. Through careful bibliometric analyses, three main results were concluded. (1) The growth of EN articles and authors was up by 1.5 times from the first decade (2000–2009) to the current one (2010–2018). (2) The most influential journals (over 300 citations) were identified. The research scope covers education technology, higher education, education policy, and even AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) education. (3) Based on some popular bibliometric indicators, the changes of research trends can be seen from the comparison of the main streams, which are identified from the most influential articles. Classification of the main research streams was presented, providing a typological understanding of the EN literature. In the first decade of research, the two articles which ranked first in terms of overall citations and average citations are Horvat et al. (2003) (232 times) and Coburn and Russell (2008) (17.6 times), respectively. In the last decade, the article by Roblyer et al. (2010) received both the highest number of citations (407) and average citations (45.2). Finally, the main ideas of highly-cited articles were categorized into three research streams. While the EN research of the earlier decade focused on interpersonal relationships, that of the recent decade emphasized on some innovative networking approaches, such as social media for learning, and network-based methodologies. Further discussions are provided.

In this paper, the study aims to inquire into the impact of integrating creative thinking teaching through project-based learning in the engineering course. In the beginning, the quasi-experiment is implemented in the engineering course. The lecture-based teaching strategy is applied to the control group, while the experimental group applied the project-based learning strategy. All of the students are asked to propose their draft scheme of final project in the middle term, and then implement one system prototype as the final project in the end of semester. The draft scheme and prototype are reviewed by experts for measuring whether creativity has increased or not. Finally, a satisfaction questionnaire is delivered to evaluate the students’ opinions about the experimental classroom. The results show that the project-based learning approach is able to promote the creative thinking of students, especially with regard to fluency and flexibility. Moreover, the students in their interview thought suitable creativity thinking tools are an approach that can promote their creativity significantly. Hence, the various creative thinking tools must be provided for students in order to take advantage of developing creativity thinking habits.

Due to their applications on varied and complex issues, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) (collectively, AIoT) have become popular new-generation courses, but the learning of such courses needs to consider actual situations and to analyze complicated problems, making it difficult for students to improve their academic performance. The concept of computational thinking education is to allow students to find solutions to problems in different fields by understanding the problems and analyzing solution steps. In this study, we integrate the concept of computational thinking education into a course on plot image-based virtual reality (VR). It combined shooting of the actual field, instructions on the movie required to be shot, and VR in order to enable students to get immersed in thinking about problems and understanding the actual field through plot image-based VR, further plan to learn the essence of problems, and develop possible solutions. Through experimental results of experimental and control groups, we found that plot image-based VR can effectively improve students’ interests in learning and computational thinking.
